That is exactly what Clintons promotor said about him and exactly how he made it this far. Too bad too because all these people are creating a glut of uneducated wanna be horse trainers. It is pretty easy to fool people who have no idea. I have been training professionally for 30 years and my greatest frustration is trying to fix that ridicules neck bend and the way it causes the horse to run through the shoulders!

…oh wait…[/QUOTE]
Deja vu all over again.:lol:
I started using Clinton’s method when I purchased an ottb that bucked his previous owner off and was then turned out. I got him skinny with rain rot and some bad habits. I turned to Clinton in desperation and was amazed at how well behaved and a pleasure this horse turned out after I did All of the exercises that Clinton offers in his book.
As far as biting while flexing - this appears to be a common problem with young horses ( of all types and backgrounds) so don’t blame yourself or your colt! It does say that he is young and playful - just like a puppy ( only much bigger so its not funny)!! I am going to suggest that as soon as your colt bites at you - while flexing or any other time - that you Immediately back him aggressively and if possible in a circle and make it VERY clear that you are not happy - then forget about it like it never happened and go about flexing him again. The correction needs to be immediate and you need to make an impression - almost like they touched a hotwire!
I don’t get mad at colts for anything that they do - they are babies - but of course I keep safety - ours and theirs in mind. The biting will be there again - and just be strict with always correcting it in a big way and immediate - then forget about it.
I try to be patient with young horses and always keep my relationship with them postive and reward them when they are behaving well. ( by petting their shoulder).
ps. I like Clinton because he has helped alot of people manage horses that they bought with some problem - as well as with alot of ‘rescue’ horses that are otherwise going to auction and killed. I know more people with horses that they can’t ride than people who have ruined a horse using Clinton’s method!!
Dog&horsemom, I agree with everything you wrote. I don’t know CA personally, and have never seen him in person. I have used his DVDs on three horses and seen improvement. As with any celebrity, guru, method, there are people who take parts (of the method, of his clinics, of his successes/failures) and make a general conclusion. But for me, hid method worked.
