DMK,
I’m sorry to say that as hysterically funny as that observation was, it is so true! I thought we had bad traffic up here in Nothern Virginia. I have family and friends down there and when I’m there it gets scary on the road sometimes!

I’m going CRAZY!!!
I suspect you will see my frozen carcass riding my wind-up, stir crazy (but has to go to a show in 1 month) TB around the Wills park indoor this weekend… I’ve had it with our ring - frozen or flooded seems to be the option of the month…
Anybody got an indoor with jumps we can pay a ring fee and ride in?
I HATE THIS WINTER!!! it’s 20 degrees below normal, and I’m sick of it already!!! This does not bode well for the next 2 months, but hey, if I lived in Minnesota, it would be the next 6 months, so I suppose there are SOME things to be grateful for.
Well, I’m currently freezing my little you-know-what off up here in Michigan. (Wind chill -8 F today), but for Christmas, I will be migrating south to…you guessed it…Atlanta!
My grandparents live in Dunwoody (near Alpharetta I do believe) and although I’m looking forward to regaining feeling in my fingers and toes, I AM already experiencing twinges of horse-seperation anxiety. (this will be my first extended amount of time away from my new horse)
So anyway, do any of you Atlanta-ites have ideas as to how I can make my time in the south less horendously horse-less? Or, alternately, just more fun? This Atlanta Saddlery sounds interesting…I’m always up for throwing away money on my oh-so-spoiled horse.
Who are some of the trainers in Atlanta? and where are they located?

i just moved back to texas from cumming. lived there three years, my parents are still there. heres a hint, stay away from wal-mart on sundays!!! lol, anyway, i can give you a few names of barns to stay away from and where some good tack shops are if you want to e-mail me…andtb@ aol.com plus some great places to eat! southern cookin’!!! it was a huge culture shock for me, of course i moved there my senoir year in high school, its a nice quite town though, lots of old traditions. where abouts do you live,we lived pretty much off of exit 15, then back a little ways. well, hope to hear from you soon!

Does the Atlanta Saddlery sell Effingham Boots? If not-where can I go? I live in MS.
Yup – I lived on Sydney Marcus.
My husband and I rented half a house from the local comedian, Jerry Farber. If you know him and think he’s funny, he’s really not. Boycott him. Email if you want the dirt. I’m following the “reliable sources” clause here.
Atlantans complain about traffic, but you know not what you say, unless you’ve driven in Bah-stan. If you look Atlantans in the eye, they will allow you graciously to merge. Bahstanians will give you the finger.
If snow is predicted, they close the schools the night before. Milk and bread will be sold out, despite the fact that if the electricity goes out, the milk will spoil …
BarBQ – Fatt Matt’s Rib Shack is the best in the entire world. Their sauce is equally tangy and spicy. Unfortunately, they don’t have cornbread. However, they do have really good blues bands.
Anyone been to Nava? Man, is that good …
The current manager at Chops is Mark van (Dutch name I can’t spell). Unless it is Rich Clark – but I think he went somewhere else in the Buckhead Life Restaurant Group. I worked for both of them at the Atlanta Fish Market.
I have been lucky to avoid the worst of Freaknik … oh how weird.
I haven’t really ridden my horse since the last week of Chateau Elan and the weather keeps getting worse!! AARRGG!!! Granted, we have an indoor, but getting thru the ice/snow to get up to Cumming has been quite interesting! I can’t wait till FL…

I love the High Museum of Art in downtown Atlanta… also dinner at Dante’s Under the Hatch, for yummy fondue & fabulous live jazz!
Where are the antique stores? I have heard about some decent antique shopping, but I don’t know where it is.
Feel free to e-mail me too: TooSassy84@aol.com. I know where everything is, probably from living all over the place and having friends all over the place! The best barns are either Barry’s place (about 1.5 hours south of Atlanta), or some places in Alpharetta/Cumming (Sunny, Terry, Claudia, etc…) I live next door to Karen Kerby and I haven’t see her at any shows in a lloonngg time, but her facility is gorgeous!

What is the name of ther barn that is in/near Buckhead. It had all corporate sponsorship to build, they do lessons and Christopher Reeves opened it a few years back. Well, at several hundred thousand per Buckhead Bulder’s Acre, you would have lousy turnout, too
Ooooh, I can’t remember the name, and I get a little invite from them every year (for a mere $75K you can have a “table” at the gala…)… I remembered!!! (actually, one of my co-workers remembered) - Chastain Horse Park!
Rags - Sunny is a woman
JT - you are right, Bahstan is pretty bad, and I have to say, Atlantans are unbelievably polite drivers (and fast - gotta love that).
I came from Miami, where the driving slogan is “Death Before Yielding” (really, Dave Barry said so!), and the drivers are by far, overall the WORST (in Bahstan, the drivers are bad, the road system is WORSE - Miami’s roads are pretty good, but even that can’t help the drivers!)
But GA400… sigh… Every year it gets 30% worse… One day I’m going to get a job that doesn’t require me to drive down this road every day (oh yes, and supports my horses in the style they have become accustomed too
Hi guys! I’m new to this site and couldn’t pass up this subject. I lived in Atlanta from 78-82, and rode with Claudia McQuillen then. Showed local shows at Pounds stables and A shows at Wills Park. I sure loved those days. I moved and have been riding off and on since. I just bought a 2 1/2 yr old TB geld. that I am just starting u/s and hope to eventually get back into showing. I’ve been reading all of your posts about attire, and am sure glad I did! I had no idea stock pins were out! I am in El Paso, TX now,and there are few hunter shows. Any old friends from claudia’s barn out there?
