Anyone had bunion surgery? How long till you were back in the saddle?

My former coworker was non weight bearing for over 6 months after bunion surgery. She couldn’t explain well what went wrong, but some bone that had to be broken in the surgery just refused to heal. She ended up using a kneeling scooter to get around. Bunion surgery is not a quick, easy, procedure.

I had one done about 12 years ago. I was completely off of my foot- elevated for 3 days. Then I could get around with a boot for a week. I want to say by week two I managed to wedge a sneaker on it so I could lightly ride. It didn’t feel great and I rode an old mare that I knew wouldn’t do anything wrong. But I needed to ride. Within a few months all was well and I was better than new. I highly recommend it. I’m glad I did it when I was young because I was headed down a bad path.
