It’s so tempting. But I’m conflicted. I HATE big and bulky phones, cases, etc. So the thought of adding more bulk to the backside of a phone… But it might be worth sacrificing a little.
@Tini_Sea_Soldier1 I also use my phone as a wallet and use one of these cases from Bandondolier: https://www.bandolierstyle.com/collections/bandolier-crossbody
I usually have my phone in a pocket but I love that I can add the strap when I don’t want to carry a large bag and don’t have pockets. I just got an Apple Watch so I’m still figuring out all the things it can do.
I load all the cards I want to use on apple pay (works with your watch too) and then have one of those mag safe wallets on the back of my phone with my ID and 1 credit card for the places that don’t take apple pay or venmo (which honestly isn’t many) the magsafe wallets are easy to remove for charging and stay put. Highly recommend.
I bought one of the apple watch ultras and though they are large now I find the screen is actually something I can see! It never occurred to me to take it off in the show ring, but then again I couldn’t imagine using it whilst I was riding either.
Can you imagine how distracting that would be? I barely hear my trainer as it is when I ride, let alone trying to hear something from my WATCH! Ear pods, yes. I can see banning those, but a watch?Nah.
You are rocking my world!
These are so much cuter than my Amazon special… and OMG… the Lana Key one. That’s always my conundrum is figuring out where to put the clunky key FOB!
I just would imagine if I had it on phone… an endless chain of clucking… which I think is pretty much done on the rail anyways.
I had to come comment on this because I just watched Conor Swail’s post on Theo at spruce and OH MAN that is definitely an iPhone max in his back pocket
I went and looked… you’re definitely right.
As the parent of pre-teen riders, the primary reason they even have an Apple Watches is so that I can track them down at horse shows. We love that they have the freedom to head off with friends to get a snack, help at the back gate, watch some rounds, etc. (freedom and independence that kids don’t get nearly as much these days), but I don’t want to have to wander the whole property to track them down. I know many a horse show mom who would be most upset if they outlawed Apple Watches.
I believe the current USEF rule about communication devices in the show ring says an exhibitor “may” be eliminated. Not “must” be eliminated.
So if someone forgets to hand their phone off to a helper at the ingate, it is not an automatic elimination.
I am not as familiar with the rules in Canada.
There is something wrong with somebody who can’t last from the stall and back without a phone.

The wording is slightly different between the HU and JP rules, but in both cases, it says “may be elimination” and always only if the judge notices.
So if you’ve got my husband’s ringtone and your phone starts quacking loudly midway through the round, you might be penalized. Phone/watch on vibrate and under a cuff or in a pocket? No one would notice, no problem.

Guilty as charged!
