Arab Horse owners - Manes

The one ear thing is an AQHA, APHA thing, at least nowadays.

Arabs that show Sport Horse tend towards no or a very small bridle path. Arabs who show main ring have a longer one. Arabian Sport Horse Nationals is in about 10 days, you can see what the trend is there in person or through pics  If you are doing dressage I would opt for a tiny or no bridle path, more room for pretty braids!!

This is from Region 4 Sport Horse Champs in May of this year-

When we prepared the horses for the Lasma sale we would measure from the inside corner of the eye to the top of the poll. That was the distance then from the poll down the neck

If you are class A showing in EP WP or any of the usual disciplines…when in Rome…

Am still laughing about the comments about Saddlebred ears…when I migrated from Arabians to Saddlebreds, it was a shock to watch the ears move…they could bat flies off a wall…however I do have one mare…and she has small ears with tips and she produces that on her offspring.

I know that many show Arabs have a longer “bridle path” shaved than the average horse… is there a set length ? I see many variations of how far down the neck, the mane is shaved. Does one length give the appearance of a longer neck ? (I have a half Arab with a short neck and a short thin mane .)… Suggestions?[/QUOTE]

What division are you planning to show your horse in?

I have a lovely full Arab mare I don’t show. I adore her beautiful fine, long forelock, mane and tail. For our own purposes, I scissor a little bridle path just to–gasp–make the appropriate room for the bridle.

I actually tried going without a bridlepath at all, but got tired of moving all those hairs out of the way every time I saddled up. Now keep it to about 2 inches. I show my Arabs and Half Arabs (Oldenburg) mostly in SH classes.

Just dressage - lower levels. From the great comments, it looks like I just do a normal bridle path. Thanks for everyone’s comments and the lovely pictures!! sadly, my girl has a short sparse mane…;=(
