Are brown hunt boots back in style?

Do you not fit in Ariats? They have brown versions of both the Heritage Contour and Challenge Contour lines. The Heritage line is a darker brown.

I have wide feet and have the Challenges. My biggest issue is height. I need a wide calf boot, but most manufacturers don’t make wide calf in tall heights. Apparently those of us with fat calves/thighs should be short and squatty. My Challenges were purchased for schooling only and are too short for showing anyway. Sigh.

(*for reference, my custom boots are 21" tall…it looks like the tallest of Ariat’s “tall” boots are only 19 3/4. Many are only 18 1/2).

Brown is very big right now! I see more and more people buying them for schooling, and I had a pair myself (the Ariat Heritage) to bang up at home and got TONS of compliments on them. It’s fun to have something different in a sea of black boots.

It’s fine to wear them in the hunters, though personally I’d wear them with a brown or green coat. They’re an informal boot traditionally, and a brown boot with a black or navy coat reads like a mixture of formal and informal to me. Similarly, I wouldn’t wear them with a shad, though I can see how they’d look fabulous with a brown one. I also wouldn’t wear them in a jumper classic that specifies formal dress - but one of the Canadian eventers, maybe Rebecca Howard, was in brown boots for both her XC and SJ at the Rio Olympics, white breeches and team coat and all, so maybe all these rules are going out the window.

I’m all about adding a little colors and individuality in the show ring, but for some reason that informal/formal distinction is one thing I’m a weird stickler about!

Also, brown boots with a black helmet looks totally fine. Black helmets, like tan breeches, just read as neutral to horse people. Our brains sort of delete them out of the picture.

…getting black dress boots is on the list. ;)[/QUOTE]

As so you should for classics and sundays, and really, for showing at all.

But things being all new-fangled now, I find myself wanting a pair of brown field boots (and a whole brown ensemble) for weekday showing. That seems to kinda sorta respect the rules somehow.

Yes, and those of us with thin calves should be tall. Guess how many boot brands come in a short-slim? And a size 5 foot? That’s right–none.

If it makes you feel any better, I am slim and short and Ariat boots are STILL too short. The talls go up over my knee cap, and the regular is an inch below.

Awful

navy hunt coat, brown boots, rust breeches! :love-struck:

I have these and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them…and so does everyone else:)

god i hope so…i really can’t stand black boots or tack ever at all lol

I got some brown field boots for free…sans laces. Where do I get laces!!!

I really want some custom brown field boots. I need extra slim and extra tall. Ariats are fine height wise, but could be slimmer. Wondering what other brands people would recommend? Mountain horse wouldn’t be tall or slim enough either. I have a pair of Tredsteps Donatello’s that fit almost like customs.

The donatello comes in brown in europe if you know what size you want:

I lust after brown boots, no matter how in or out of style they are.

However, my very traditional trainer bought some and has been showing the Hunters in them. She pairs it with a blue coat and it’s beautiful. She is also a beautiful rider generally on a white horse, S the whole picture is just fantastic.

Do you think the USA retailers could order me brown?? Or would I have to buy from European retailer?

It says EU only so I am guessing no. But any of a dozen Dealers in Europe or the U.K. Should be able to get them to you. Equus in the U.K. Has them on their site, I buy from them all the time.

I would ask at a shoe store. In the old days, I would sometimes use 2 pairs of regular laces and tie each pair together to make two extra-long laces for my field boots.

Paddock boot laces would probably work. A lot of tack shops sell those in brown.
