Are people not advertising horses for sale?

That’s fair, we’ve just had very different experiences with 3 yr olds obviously. Mine are the same at 5 as they were at 3, they just have more training.

Me, i can leave my gelding alone for 2-3 weeks, bring him in, tack him up, and put my beginner cousin on his back for a 20-minute walk/trot lesson on the lunge line. He’s THAT quiet. Every time - all the time. He has had maybe 60 rides on him total since late last fall. He is what he is, he has been this way since he was born, he’s just sensible like that. So was my last youngster, and the one before that. Safe, safe, safe. Day in, and day out.

Being well trained is a different story. Sure if you ask him to canter a 10 m circle, go down the diagonal and do a flying change, he won’t be able to. But you know what? He will try his best.
Temperament/disposition/heart doesn’t change, or at least very, very little - if they’re bombproof superstars at 3, it ain’t gonna change.

But anyways, so sorry for derailing your thread, carry on!! I think Arab/WB crosses are wonderful too!

Bummer! My trainer is selling his half brother out of the same mare, by Rosenthal, but although he’s absolutely stunning, he’s only two, so that’s not going to help you or your clients out.

Hopefully one of the others works out for you. I’m a big fan of Arabs as well.

I know of one (Arab/WB) in GA and another in AZ. You can email me for more info at allanglos@yahoo.com

There was also a Selle Francais/Arab in FL that is nice. Not sure if still available.

I’ve stopped advertising in this market. People want to pay nothing. It’s a business. That means it’s not free. I bend over backwards and spend a lot of time with them. No more.

I agree with asbjumper. Frustrating! It’s like watching millionaire matchmaker. I’m a closet MM fan!!

I’m up in Canada lol so sorry can’t help you out but I think you are correct. Not too many good horses advertised for sale here either. I wonder if this lack of good riding horses will result in a recovery of prices for good horses. Everyone I know has stopped breeding for a few years now.

Also, I agree that a three year old can be as quiet as a 15 yr old however a really nervous, inconsistent rider can ruin a nice three year old whereas a 15 yr old horse already has the confidence and hours under saddle to handle a few rider mistakes. I am now in my 60s and when I was looking for a new horse I did not want to look at anything under 5 yrs old just because I wanted something I could hop on either every day or once a week without worrying about training.

We haven’t done much advertising, mostly because they have been selling as soon as they are WTC. We do have a couple of Arab crosses but they are youngsters so not what your clients have in mind.

I’m running into the same problem…Will soon be in the market for a weanling or yearling jumper-bred filly, but people only seem to be advertising them once they are started under saddle! I don’t want a 3 or 4 year old, I want a baby. Only some of the bigger operations seem to be advertising many youngsters at all, and even then they aren’t listing everything they have. Good luck on your search! Too bad I’m so far away, I have a mare who would be close to perfect for your fearful client.

Well said Dressage4ever

Mine fits except she’s hunter bred :(. But your right i don’t see a lot out there.

I have pulled the ads on my very nice, talented 5 yr old WB…could not handle one more bad rider misrepresenting their riding ability getting on him. No, you are NOT a second level rider if your hands are so bad the whip looks like a windshield wiper and your feet are all the way in the stirrups with your toes down. Poor guy took it well through…Will sell by word of mouth or not sell at all.

sorry if I am being to nosy but here are a few more in FL… like I said I love horse looking

prob older than what client 2 is looking for but here is a cute pb

Sorry, NJRIder- this can happen in any market. The worst ride my poor gelding ever had to endure was from a “trainer”- who clung to his face with all her might and could not get even one canter stride out of him yikes (BTW, her student rode him wonderfully but trainer told client not to buy him since he was messed up!)

Back to the OP, I AM advertising but I get almost no response…I have lowered prices as much as I am willing so now it’s just wait and see :frowning:
