DH and I went up to Big South Fork a few years ago and loved it, but the drive, not so much! We’re hoping to find a cabin with trail access, a barn, and turnout (if possible) in the Smokey Mountains or really anywhere that isn’t too far away from Madison, GA. Any suggestions because I can’t find a thing outside of BSF!

Make sure you require a turnout lot that is not barbed wire. There is one that is/was bad. All others were panel pens or wood fences. The cabins are fine. The Treehouse truly is that shady and is private. I’d pick that one. over a mile ride on blacktop to access trail heads. We elected to haul to trail heads.

No cabins, but right at the trail heads accessed from Gilbertson’s. Immaculate. May be able to recommend local cabins.

This is my preferred side of the Smokies> This place is NOT FANCY. Stalls are safe but small. safe turnout (hot high tensile, big turnout area). Funny little ancient travel trailers for rent. Tidy but NOT fancy. Did I mention not fancy. Within one mile or less are cabins right on the creek that are fancier- might be an option for you to consider. Notice he lists nearby lodging. James, the owner, is an absolute treasure, his family has been right there forever and he’s retired from the park service. I just love James to bits. Tell him Kat from Alabama sent you.
Thanks!!! Lazy Horse sounds perfect!
Leatherwood Mountain has cabins, horse trailer campground, stables, arena and miles of trails. I have not been there but I have their link saved for a possible future trip.
