Hello, I come a cross your question regarding can cat food, I hope you find food that is healthy for your cat and the cat like to eat.
I have a cat with thyroid problem and vet put him on Hills y/d crap prescription diet and my cat was loosing more weight muscles so I put him on Hound&Gatos can food Rabbit and Beef and the cat get better in 1 month, I bought this kind of can food for 6 month, on december 2013 I bought a few cans with a new label.
The new label states 100% Rabbit(the old label 98%) and all indigence are the same as in the old cans but with less fat content the can indigence look different, solid, light color
and my cat would not eat.
I contact Hounds&Gatos company and they said they did not change the can indigence only the label.
I found another can cat food with Rabbit and my cat liked very much.

Wild Calling nothing wilder Rabbit burrow 96% rabbit
Wild Calling Cabin Fever Cat Food Can 96% Chicken
They also have other such as turkey, beef, pheasant,…

It is hard to find the health food for pets, most food contain ingredients that cat in the wild will not eat, cat need meat.

Sincerely,

Majda

Wild Calling makes a 96% rabbit food that’s manufactured in the US. My older kitty, who has stomatitis and must eat “novel” proteins, likes this rabbit and eats it. And she can be picky sometimes. They also make a venison and a bison/buffalo.

hound and gatos several flavors have worked great with my cat’s IBD

I read this thread because my cat has had IBD for 2 years. We have had him on multiple meds including steroids and b12 shots with some success for awhile. 4 months ago it started acting up again and i saw this thread and tried to get Hound and Gatos rabbit for him, but the supply will not be in for a couple of months at least. So, I spoke to the owner of Hounds and Gatos and he encouraged me to try other flavors. I did. And it was amazing. This is the first time my 15 year old cat had a normal bm in over 4 months…and it happened within 2 days of starting him on Hound and Gatos cat food. Thought I would share for others whose cats are suffering from IBD.

Wow, blast from the past.

Hound and Gatos solved their supply issues that inspired this thread and we continued to feed their rabbit variety until earlier this year. When we knew we were moving to MN, we switched Portia to the Wild Calling option, as it’s available through Chewy. She’s doing great on it.

njbk, glad to hear your cat is doing well.

What food is she on now? Trying to get my IBD cat on a food that works for her. The HA and Z/D seem to be a no go so going back to other options. She’s done the best on the LID from Natural Balance.

I have apparently jinxed myself.

From Chewy today:

We’re contacting you regarding the recent Autoship order scheduled to ship with us soon. I’m afraid that we’ve discontinued the item below:

2 x Wild Calling Rabbit Burrow 96% Rabbit Grain-Free Adult Canned Cat Food, 5.5-oz, case of 24

This product(s) was removed from your order so the rest of your goodies ship out on time. And since it’s been removed, you weren’t charged for it.

Head. Desk.

Alright, I think we have to switch protein sources. I thought of perhaps going with the raw rabbit, but started reading up on it and got very overwhelmed very quickly.

So, venison or buffalo? Portia’s been on venison, but it was years and years ago, and way before her IBD diagnosis and issues.

I have nothing available locally, so have to order a whole case through Chewy. Otherwise would just get a few cans and see how she does.

Here’s what I’m down to:

Wild Calling Buffalo

Or

Ziwi Peak Venison

Any input, considering everything about this cat in this thread?

Or please advise on something different. Has to be available from Chewy and not have any “feathered” proteins. Also needs to be meat ingredients only…

I’d be inclined to stay with the same brand - especially as Ziwi can have palatability/acceptance issue … too bad you can’t put together a sample pack … actually, I’d contact the manufacturer & see if you can have a sample pack sent out to you (or dropped at some location convenient to the area sales rep)

(perhaps if you sing well enough to WC about the rabbit, they will be able to help you with a solution)

I know you said no feathers, but chat to your vet about duck, chicken/turkey/pheasant tend to cross react, but IME duck can be fine … but I suspect that what the poultry is fed affects cross-reactivity.
