Ariat V Sport Tall boot- Has anyone seen them?

Hahahah I am not sure!

For one, I am kinda anal and keep my boots very clean. They go on after I put the saddle on, and they come off before I put my horse away - so I am hoping with daily wipe downs the perforated leather won’t get too gunky. So far a damp rag had them back to perfectly clean after a long sweaty trail ride.

Though I am also a person who punishes myself by using plaited reins - I get to clean those all the time!

Thanks for the reminder - I meant to write Ariat and ask them HOW to care for these things! I always used Mallard Wax on my other Ariat products, but the foot on these V sports is much more thin and supple (I don’t want to over condition them).

I got both the V Sport and the Volant S boots for Christmas. Like Appsolute, I love them so much that I feel like I have to add that I am in no way paid by Ariat to share my feelings about the boots!

I have a few pairs of different brands of tall boots, but all I wear these days are my Ariats. Up until Christmas I lived in my old red-stripe Volants (which were incredibly unflattering…especially after they stretched in the leg as much as they did over the years), but they were so comfortable it was worth it, so when I decided I wanted new schooling boots I knew that I wanted the Volant foot with a (hopefully) more flattering leg.

Volant S in action

I’m thrilled that Ariat added the spanish top to all of the new boots, and I think that what I ended up with is far more flattering than my old Volants.

I’m not sure how cleaning is going to go on the perforated leather (or leather-like material? Not sure it’s actually leather) on the Sport Vs. I think they look nice enough that I could wear them in a jumper class, but I would hold off on wearing them in a formal-type class (classic or prix). With that being said, the Sport V boots are a big step down in quality from the Volant S. The footbed isn’t as nice, they’re missing some little details (like the “safety keeper” that keeps the zipper from unzipping), and are in general much less “constructed” than the Volants. But for the $285 price tag I think they’re absolutely the best schooling boots you could buy for that money, and the picture is the first day I wore them…you can see that they already look broken in, and felt that way as well. The Volant S are more like a regular boot as far as break-in goes, and where I usually do a modified bathtub method on all new boots, I’m WAY too much of a wimp to do that in the winter! Where my Sport V and old Volants were broken in on day one, the Volant S took about a week (riding 5 horses a day every day) to really feel as comfy as the other boots. But I was completely and totally surprised that I like them enough that I would happily wear them in any/all shows and classes.

I’ll add one more note about the fit. I found that the reviews on Smartpak were fairly accurate. I wear a size 8 and have calves that are just a hair under 14 1/2" (which is their Full measurement). I was really on the fence about what size to order because with the stretch panel you’ve got a little leeway, and after use I absolutely swim in my old Full calf Volants. But in the end I stuck with my normal size (full calf) and don’t regret it. The Volant S boots could stand to be a HAIR snugger (I prefer that they start off just about cutting off circulation), but in general are fine. And I feel better about how much they might stretch since they don’t have the large stretchy panel that the old Volants had. The Sport Vs are a tiny bit snugger and I don’t think I could have gotten away with the Regular calf. I thought foot size was the same between both. And I will say here that I was a size 7 1/2 in Ariat for a decade, and then when they came out with the Volants and Monacos 5 or so years ago I thought they changed how they did the sizing and now I’m a size 8. So I think the sizing in the foot adheres to how they’ve been sizing their boots for the last several years.

Oooh PNWj I think you’ve convinced me, they both look fantastic!
I’m heading back over to the States for Rolex this year - hoping one of the trade stands might sell them, or might have to find a Dover along the way

I just bought a pair! Although mine have black lizard, not blue tops. They’re super comfy, and one of the best things about them was them was that the first time I rode in them I could get my heels down immediately. I am so tired of ALL of the material/zipper at the front of half chaps and paddock boots constricting the flexion of my ankle!! It’s a serious problem - changes my entire center of gravity!

I will use mine primarily as schooling boots, but may show in them in the jumpers at smaller shows.

eta: if you’re buying online, these run true to ARIAT sizing, which is to say that I usually wear a 10 in shoes and I wear a 9 in everything Ariat makes.

I like the idea and look of these but I am really curious how the perforated leather holds up and cleans up. What is the alleged advantage of perforated leather? The boots feel cooler? Grippyness?

The perforated leather is only on the outside of the boot. The inside of the calf is a different leather, which does seem very grippy (just from the looks of it) and is not perforated.

I would love to know the answer to this too (the why of it, that is). They don’t feel any cooler to me when I ride in them, but then I have on fleece lined breeches, so maybe I’ll feel differently when it’s warm out? Seems like an odd choice. I got mud all over mine yesterday, though, and had to run to my chiropractor straight from the barn. I grabbed a damp paper towel out of the restroom and wiped them down (expecting the dirt to stay in the holes), and they cleaned right up. So the holes don’t seem to hold onto the dirt like I was expecting. Perhaps it gives the leather (or whatever) more stretch to conform to the leg?

And as Jo said, the inside of the boots are normal leather, the perforations are only on the outer half of the boot.

Yep, like others said, I the inside is a different leather - its thicker, and Ariat calls it ‘oiled’ - I found it MUCH gripper than my half chaps (course those had been worn smooth!).

The outside of he calf is a thinner perforated leather. I assumed it was to make them cooler and perhaps add a bit more stretch. I will have to report back in summer when we hit 100+ degrees!

The foot of the boot is a smooth leather.

OMG you guys are making me want these boots!!! I have been looking at the Volant front zips and the V sport. Does anyone know in Canada where I can get either? Also how do they fit in the ankle I have really skinny ankles and when the laced tall boots drop (even with the zipper in the back) they are really bulky around my ankles. Thanks for fueling my shopping addiction

I asked the super, super nice Ariat rep yesterday why the perforated leather is used. She pointed out that it’s not for coolness because the leather is lined inside the boot there-- which would moot any added airflow the perforations add. She said it’s just because the perforated leather is softer and they wanted the outside of the boot’s shaft on that side to have extra soft leather.

This, to me, begs the question of why not just use super soft leather (i.e. what they used on the Monaco boots) and skip the perforations-- but there’s the answer.

And… Ariat has some DELICIOUS boots coming out soon. And Sergio Grasso has some c-r-a-z-y boots coming out too, while we’re on the subject. Including Volant tyle sneaker paddock boot/chap combos in several different colors. And while we’re on the subject, Devon Aire (of all brands) is making TS trophy hunter knockoff type breeches in a bunch of colors with tons of different colored fun piping and matching sock bottoms and I want want want WANT! Much drooling over shoes and boots occurred yesterday.

Do you think they would look out of place at a dressage show?

Well, the ones I saw were field boots…

I wonder when the new Ariat boots are coming out? Do you see them vxf111?
Those are super tempting!
I found them on Smartpak in stock and ordered them today, I can’t wait till they get here!

Well, Monacos are $900, while V Sports are $300. I love how soft and flexible the V Sports are, and Monacos are way out of my price range.

I found a pair of the original Volants (with red trim) on closeout online for $230. They are in my size, but I am nervous as people here are saying they run on the big side. If I get these, I can’t return them–all sales are final. The boots would be for schooling only. Should I?

I wasn’t saying they HAD to use the $$$ Monaco leather. I’m just saying there’s plenty of non-perforated soft leather.

I liked the look of the boots but given my concerns about cleaning/maintaining/durability of perforated leather-- I’d probably go with the Volants, myself.

I don’t know if you could get away with them in the hunter ring. I would think they would be great in the jumpers though. Those boots look so sharp and the foot looks a lot like the volant which is super comfy. I’m in love!
I agree - but I am sure you could, it would be a personal preference though.

I have the Volant Paddock Boots, which I LOVE. They are so comfortable to both ride and walk in. I don’t see them any longer in the catalog, so not sure they still make them, which I am not happy about…

Love these.

So sad I just bought two pairs of Volantes. I Need the Vsports. Anyone want to buy a new pair of volantes for a good price? 7 1/2 tall medium calf
