Thanks, everyone!
I have tried putting a little of the CRF food on top of her regular food and it does get her started.
I do have two kitties, one kidney kitty who eats very well, and a slightly younger kitty who has been finicky ever since she came to live with me (in kittenhood).
She ate dry food better when both cats were on a mostly dry-food diet, but I’ve switched them both over to mostly canned. I wish I could leave regular grocery store dry food for free choice, but kidney kitty can’t have it, and the CRF dry food is too fattening for the younger cat.
I love the idea of freezing small portions in an ice cube tray! I need to replace my ice cube tray anyway, so I will buy two and use one for cat food.
I have tried microwaving the food when I take it out of the fridge but it doesn’t seem to make it any more appetizing. Sometimes I leave the can on the counter for an hour or two and sometimes that helps, sometimes not.
I don’t think it’s any like gastritis. She eats the CRF food well and eats people food very well. But I will keep that in mind. There are no signs of tummy upset, no vomiting, no constipation or diarrhea.
I will try some more expensive foods next time I go to the pet store, but I can’t afford them on a regular basis, although if she likes them it would certainly cost less than buying less pricey food and throwing it out after only a couple of meals.
I wish the old Puss in Boots canned food still existed. That smelled so much like fish! I also think she would like the smelly old Kozy Kitten and Her Majesty, but don’t think they’re around anymore. Whatever happened to Kal Kan? (Not saying it was cheap, or bad, just haven’t seen it in several years.)
I would just feed it the CRF.
All my cats live on food designed for urinary issues, because I can’t segregate effectively and 2 of the 4 could use it. I use Nutro wet food and the Purina Focus dry. It is much cheaper on Amazon than in the store, esp Subscribe and Save. Mine love the duck.
My cat will only eat shreds or chunks and she will not eat the same flavor twice in a row.
Tonight I opened a container of Sheba and after she had eaten only a bite or two of it, I took it into the living room where she had curled up in the cat chair for a nap, looking very sad and neglected. I sat down on the floor and held the best saucer with the food on it for her and she ate it lying there. I felt so bad for her. I love her and I don’t want her to go hungry just because I keep buying food she doesn’t like.
I just took her some treats.
Am I a sucker or what?
Hey. I love my kitties.
You’re a good kitty mama. I have two monsters who literally eat anything (cat food, dog food, vegetable scraps, dried pasta…) and a newer resident who was slightly picky. His appetite picked up once he was surrounded by monsters. After two weeks of watching the girls down the majority of his dinner he gained monster status and started inhaling his meals.
Maybe I should start a side business renting out my monsters.
Wellness makes big cans of wet food. If you are going to split servings and freeze they are fairly economical compared to the smaller premium cans.
Thank you, GraceLikeRain.
If you ever open Rent-A-Monster, please let me know!
Better Than Bullion low sodium chicken stock in a jar. They use it at cat sanctuaries and rescues. Dilute with water and mix it with regular food. Doesn’t take much maybe an eighth teaspoon. I used it when my cat was dying to try to get some supplements into him. For picky cats it might get them to accept more kinds of food. Worth a try.
I was going to say, make your own meat stock (chicken, beef, fish, etc) and cook it right down so it’s pretty thick - if she likes it, maybe you could add it to other stuff as a “gravy” for her? Poor you, it’s such a worry having a cat who’s a picky eater.
Do you put any dry food on the canned? My princess female won’t touch plain wet food, but if I mix in 1/8 cup of dry food then she’ll happily eat it.

Maybe switching all the time is part of the issue. Maybe you need to pick something and keep putting it out until she learns she has to eat it?[/QUOTE]
That’s my vote. The more you change the pickier they get. They hold out for something better to see what you will come up with next. Food connoisseurs waiting for you to “surprise their pallet”
If it’s any consolation, I am struggling to get my CRF cat to eat kidney wetfood.
