I will definitely be calling Hunter’s Glen then! Thanks everyone!
I’m from Atlanta and have a few suggestions for making things livable for yourself. It is a great city, and the in town neighborhoods are a great place to live. If you worked up in Alpharetta you’d be commuting in the opposite direction of most of the traffic which should theoretically be an advantage. If you work in town, you could situate yourself strategically to avoid an unreasonably long commute. However, when you are going out to the barn after work, you’ll be joining everyone who is going home from the city which could make for a lot of time on the road.
My advice is to try to live in town and work in Alpharetta. You can board in or near Alpharetta. Scoot over to the barn after work, and by the time you are done at the barn, traffic will have died down and your commute home would be shorter.
You are smart to give yourself time to figure things out before you settle into your own place. Good luck with your job and barn searches. I didn’t have horses when I lived in Atlanta so I can’t offer any suggestions there, but I did live there for 25 years, mostly in the in town neighborhoods.
I’m a third for Jenny Gelb. She is still a mentor of mine although I do not live in Atlanta anymore. She is very knowledgeable and the barn is very friendly. There’s a mix of all different riders at her place and it was very fun going to shows with the crew.
Falcon Ridge up in Woodstock is great. Sharon is one of the nicest people I have met. Nothing fancy but good footing, good turn-out. I think board is closer to $750 with a required lesson a week. www.FalconRidgeStables.com. The commute was just too long for me from Cabbagetown (1hr with-out traffic).
I’m down at the other end in Tyrone. Pasture board for $325. Footing is so-so, but super nice people and horses are very well cared for. However it’s probably an hour from Alpharetta.
You should call where I board too - Centurion Farm with Karen Boysen =]
