Attaching and unattaching mower from tractor -- is there an easier PTO connector?

Thank you so much everyone for the tips and comments! My tractor guy found an easier drive line…the end that attaches to the tractor has a pin instead of a sliding collar. I think someone posted about that. He says it will be much easier.

He is also removing a small rectangular metal shield bolted to the tractor around the attachment point. I never ever approach the PTO with the tractor running, and will need to be very careful but he says he took them off all his equipment. It makes the PTO attachment much easier to get to with my hands.

In addition, he is installing quick connectors to the three point arms. Someone also mentioned these above.

I will take a picture when he is done.

Hopefully, changing implements will be easy enough that I will actually do it!

The metal shield on the tractor is supposed to be able to slide up, so it is out of the way when connecting the PTO.

Good that he is helping you, sure makes it easier when someone shows you how to do it.

Be sure to practice while he is still there.

Interesting Bluey… I will take another look but the metal shield does not seem to be slideable.

It should have quarter moon slits on each side and wing nuts, so you can loosen it, slide it up and tighten it up for working on the PTO.

If he does take them off, it is illegal and you are voiding the warranty, so at least don’t post about it.

I don’t know about your tractor, all the ones we had you could move that shield out of the way, but maybe in yours it is bolted down?
Even so, you should have enough room in there to attach a PTO, mine does.

Wing nuts look like this, the one on his head, not the fellow:

Haha, tractor is an old John Deere whose warranty is long long gone. Thanks for the info. I will double check on shield being moveable.

Our Deere 6210 has the P[TO shield on a hinge at the top and it folds out of the way.

G.

Interesting… I took another look and mine is bolted on without any movement. Three sided shield that shields the top and both sides of the PTO. No hinge, no slits, no wingnuts. I’m taking it off.
