yes, but without the fly nets, when the earplugs fall out, they just fall out and you lose them. They don’t stay there and rattle around.
But didn’t Beezie already explain that she thought sweat trickled down inside his ear? So the earplug theory, while plausible, was not the case.
I would think he’d have to be sweating a LOT for enough of it to run into his ear and bother him. Especially wearing an ear net, since the ear net would absorb some sweat. It sure is hot there in Hong Kong though.
Whatever it was it was clear that something bugged him-- and then once it shook loose/out he was seemingly fine. So unlucky to have that happen THEN… but just one of those things, I guess.
I’m in the ear puffy gone array camp! It’s happened to me before in the same scenario (minus about 2 feet from the jump and 20,000 people from the stands!). As the plug starts to come unlodged, it can irritate the delicate hair in the ear and cause the violent shaking. Just because she didn’t come out and say it doesn’t mean he didn’t have them in and it seems more plausible than sweat in his ear.
Authentic doesn’t wear earplugs.

Whether or not Authentic wears earplugs, if Beezie thought that was the cause I’d think she’d have said that in her blog rather than the sweat hypothesis. I’d think if it had come dislodged (assuming he wears earplugs, which we don’t know), there would have been some evidence to that effect when they took off the fly bonnet. As in, “hey look a loose earplug” unless it worked it’s way back in, which is possible.
As for it taking a lot of sweat to cause that effect, I think that’s why they took off the fly bonnet. Thinking that perhaps the bonnet caused his ears to sweat more than if they had been open to the air by holding in the heat. And I don’t know about you, but in hot humid conditions it only takes one drop of sweat running just the wrong way to annoy me quite a bit.
I’m thinking he probably doesn’t wear earplugs, because if he did, it seems like it would be less likely for sweat to make it into the ear canal. Which would make Beezie’s guess about the cause of his headshaking make less sense to me. But that’s just my guess based on Beezie’s blog, I have no inside info here, LOL.
