Avon Skin So Soft

My recipe

Interestingly, I decided to try equicare flysect citronella and it does seem to repel flies but it made my sensitive TB peel in a few spots after a couple weeks. I usually make my own recipe with SSS and have never had a problem with it.

I do:
1 cup SSS
1 cup water
2 cups white vinegar
1 TBS eucalyptus oil
1 TBS citronella oil

If you don’t have citronella oil it still works, just not quite as good on mosquitoes.

Interesting how different our recipes can be.

can you get eucalyptus oil and citronella oil at walmart?

i checked atmy local coop, and they are so expensive!

I got inexpensive Citronella concentrate from Jeffer’s.

There’s fragrance in SSS and I suspect that’s very irritating to some sensitive skinned horses.
It’s irritating to me! I can’t stand the smell. I don’t want my horses smelling like cheap hookers:lol:!

Mmm, I love the smell!!! That and the pink stuff are my two favorite horsey smells. I like Sore no More too.

I’ve found it cheapest on amazon (with free shipping). If I can’t wait there is a health food store near me that carries it for a bit more in cost. Pretty much any health food store carries it. Usually they only have little tiny citronella oil bottles though at the stores.

kcmel, how do you know what cheap hookers smell like?

People always ask what I’m spraying because they like the smell. The eucalyptus oil has it’s own strong smell, and you can usual smell the vinegar a little too, so I don’t think you would even recognize the SSS without someone mentioning that it was there.

Do be aware that SSS is mainly mineral oil and many horses just don’t tolerate mineral oil on their skin. They may develope skin peeling.
Yes, my old Arab gelding had problems with the skin-so-soft as well. Nasty peeling and bleeding all over his chest.

It might be worth a try, but do test it on a small spot first.

I am picturing a hooker who moonlights as an Avon lady

I used to mix 50/50 skin so soft and isopropyl alcohol

I used to make my own spray with SSS and it worked great during mosquito season. I would use 1 part SSS, 1 part water, and 1 part vinegar. If ticks were particularly bad, I would add an ounce of concentrate repellant to the mix.

The smell finally got to me, and I’ve used Pyrhanna and WIPE exclusively since. However, here in bug hell, the mix did work fairly well.

This reminds me of the time when I was living alone many years ago and my downstairs neighbor, not realizing it was me, told me that the girl who lived in my apartment was a prostitute. Seeing as I spent many hours doing field work, and was spending all of my free time at the stable, I’d come home covered in mud and smelling like horses. I can’t even begin to imagine what kind of two-bit donkey-show hooker he thought I was
