Baby Monitor for the Barn

You can also look at intercomm systems with a monitor mode. Mine came from Radio Shack years ago and are still going strong. The advantage to this type of system is that it is transmitting over the electrical wiring between the house and the barn, so distance and intervening buildings are not an issue. I do pick up some static when any lights on dimmer switches are turned on, but since that doesn’t happen often and never at night, it hasn’t been a problem for me.

I have this one and I LOVE it because when I hear someone pawing or rubbing or kicking… I can press a button and yell at them and then there is silence LOL. They do not want to deal with mom when they are not behaving and it has saved me from the middle of the night dash across the lawn to find out who the culprit is. My barn is 300 feet away and it is plugged in in the unheated area in the aisle. This one also blocks out the white noise which I found was a problem with my old one.

I love this one… barn is about 500 ft away. It has sensitivity settings so you don’t have to listen to white noise all of the time and you can talk back through it. I think it’s similar to the one linked above but a bit older.

My barn is ~474’ from the house. I use a RadioShack brand FM 2-channel — yes it is old but still works great, lollol
