Yeah…this…and I’m just South of Calgary, my barn is on a wildlife corridor! Just what we need MORE cougars traipsing through the properties for “equine bacon brunch”!
I wonder if the things used in curing the bacon and therefore in the grease would be absorbed into the skin with prolonged use? Especially in the more unprotected regions?
I can’t fathom what the horses coat looks like where the grease is applied?? My dogs wouldn’t leave the horses alone if I slathered mine in bacon grease.
If you wrap their legs in bandages they don’t get bitten either. I like the Shoo Fly boots and soft masks with ears. There is far more salt in a horse’s sweat than in bacon grease, and flies don’t pay any attention to salt anyway.
For this one obviously needs Canadian bacon.
Its true i think its because of its viscosity, bacon grease applied to the horse where flies tend to bite will result in rapid relief, and also when the grease is applied on open sores it won,t irritate the open wounds.Petroleum jelly ,also sticky can work as well
