Holy high scores Batman! Will be interesting to hear what the number crunchers have to say - seems to me the GJ started with fairly generous scores and then trended up over the two days. There were some fabulous tests, but so many personal bests seems to indicate a bit of generosity. The new test is probably having an influence too.
Just did the math for fun - if we still had the dressage coefficient, the top 15 pairs would all still have dressage scores in the 30s.
Ollie Townend with a freakin 20. Wow. I’m all for Mark Todd to take another Badders title!
Praise the live streaming internet gods, I managed to catch both Mark Todd and Ollie Townend’s rides on my phone!
Both a pleasure to watch. A few things Ollie could’ve buttoned up a little better but overall (and considering the footing) lovely.
The replays on the Badminton site are fine. I’ll be happy to watch them instead of the live stream, especially the cross country.
They set it up with one commentator doing scoring, and another one scribing He was quite close throughout the test - mostly within 0.5 of at least one of the scores (the judging was still a bit wonky at times with a pretty wide spread among the judges for the same movement).
ETA - I don’t think they tallied a final score to compare
I can’t believe how many scores are in the 20’s as compared to Kentucky. We have a lot of work to do! Only 5 scores in the 20’s at Kentucky, and 30+ at Badders.
I’m sure this has been asked, but where are the replays that skydy mentioned? I don’t seen them on the Badminton site or its youtube page.

If you scroll all the way down, on the right side under “Watch Again” it should show the videos for parts 2, 3 & 4 as well!
Thanks–I wondered if they did a final score. I found it interesting.
Here’s the XC order of go. I think this starts at 6:30 a.m. Eastern time. This was posted under “Live Results,” which seems confusing, but I always have trouble navigating the Badminton site.

Hopefully the footing on cross country will hold up till those last cross country rides. Gonna be rough going for Ollie. The dressage ring was looking pretty torn up in the corners.
Thanks, Heinz57! Not sure how i missed that. I was looking around on the video page. Is it safe to assume xc will be shown again…? I’m trying to decide whether to sign up for the Horse Country TV thing so I can get up and watch live…
I think they will offer the whole thing after it’s over in the Watch Again section… they have all of the dressage up now (and wow, the commentary has me in stitches while being very educational, LOL)
Should I cross my fingers that I can for sure watch the entire thing later and pretend it’s live ???
Everything is scheduled to be on the first weekend in May, a prime weekend! Aaahh!!
Last year I got to my volunteer post at 5:30 am to watch in my car, and then when the thing started, I put the tablet on a table beside the volunteer stand until it finished.
Today I printed the ride times to mark my favorites and maybe just concentrate on them during the live stream, but I have so many marked I might as well just watch them all.
The thing is, these 4* courses are an unfolding drama throughout the day, because what happens with earlier riders can affect the strategy of later riders. Watching the trips one after the other really is key to understanding how the day unfolds, and how that affects the scores and placings.
It’s so common for a particular obstacle to be a bugaboo for the first third or so of the field, but after that, either word has gone around how to ride it, or even conditions may have changed, and it’s no longer an issue.
And some of the course may not hold up as well and that adversely affects the later goes. Especially as it has been so wet over there recently, even Jung remarked on the sogginess of the course.
I really, really like to watch every trip as it happens, from the first rider to the last … even though it helps to be in one’s own kitchen to make that work comfortably!
Oh I feel the same! Tomorrow is a church work day. They want us to come and cleanup the grounds. It is supposed to be a missions thing. That stings. I am new to the church, I like it a LOT., but the grounds are clean. I don’t know what we will do but they want us there by 8.
I also want to go to the Truman home. I live in Independence, have for 40 years. I have NEVER been to the house. His birthday is next week, and they always have it on sale, I guess it will be $1, instead of $7. You know how if you live in NY, you never get to the statue of Liberty? It is sort of the same thing. I was supposed to go to lunch with my high school girlfriends, ( we are approaching 50 years)., That ain’t gonna happen. And in the afternoon, there is the derby…It doesn’t mean as much to me these days, as I just don’t have anyone to talk about it with. But I will still watch.
What are you volunteering for? Sounds a little like jump judging…
Alarm set for 6:15 AM! I also wonder why would they schedule the Eventing Nations Cup on the same weekend as Badminton?! I looked on FEI TV for Badminton coverage and they seem to have that instead.
Wow, incredibly exciting! Kind of hoping Ollie wins the Grand Slam. And, as usual, pulling for Lauren! It’s anyone’s show at this point.
I totally agree with this - but 3:30am in my time zone!!!
