Got it!

After I posted I realizd that you had simply changed from 24 hr notation to 12 hr notation, without accounting for time zones.

I don’t think of 12 hr notation as being “American”, becasue the only people I know who regularly use 24 hr notation are Americans with a military background. (My relatives who still live in England do not seem confused when I use 12 hr notation, though they do get confused when I describe the air temperature in Farenheit.)
