Badminton;

It was busy but not crowded on Friday. Imagine this scene with multiple times more people. I stay home and watch the Livestream.

The crowd gets spread over a pretty big area so its not bad. You definitely want to plan on arriving early. Some of the roads going into Badminton are pretty narrow country roads.

Wow I came to say how amazing Toledo is. What a shame.

two horse falls in the first 6 horses … that is concerning

I was really hoping when the course kept going that it meant Nicola was ok.

I am curious what the call will be on Ollie. Looked to me that the horses hips touched.

And then there’s William Fox-Pitt who made it around with just 2.8 time.

he was jumping so well, not a fan of that solar panel bounce :frowning:

What do you mean?

I don’t have the live stream, but I see two horse falls already listed on the fence analysis. Is that correct? Not counting Ollie’s potential horse fall.

I’m absolutely sick over Nicola. Praying for her so hard right now.

I hate that solar panel jump, hated it before and hate it even more now. Doesn’t forgive the horses at all. I hate XC bounces and at the end of a course just seems cruel.

Ollie didn’t fall he jumped off?

Yes

Toledo took a stride out before the bounces and just jumped too big into the bounce element and didn’t have time to get his front end out of the way. He was jumping absolutely brilliantly and it was just a case IMHO of a brilliant horse being too brilliant.

Yes - Toledo de Kerser at the bounce (too flat too fast and couldn’t pick up) and J L Dublin and Nicola Wilson later on. To me that looked like the horse just didn’t get its front end up. Hold on course at the moment due to the second one - rider not horse (I think)

I think they mean the horses hips may have touched the ground when he was scrambling and (looks to have) missed the flag

The horse, not him. The horse went down to his stifles, and I understand that is not a full hip, but he went down fairly far.

Oh no :frowning: I didn’t like the look of those solar panel bounces on the course wall app. Give me carved animals over those.

To me, I think that should be a missed flag. I don’t think it ā€œgenuinelyā€ cleared it but that is an amateur opinion

He didn’t fall, they took a flyer at the last element and Ollie tried to fix it mid-air, but the horse half landed on top of the fence and scrambled off. Rider was unseated but didn’t fall. (At least what I could see.)

Fingers crossed for Nicola.

I’m hoping the new riders to this event get around safely.

Nvm it was answered!

This is so stressful!

I wonder what the thought process was behind the solar panels was.

By nature, I would think a bounce is used to encourage fast footwork and more engagement. By using long ā€œlowā€ fences with a significant slope, it almost looks like it encourages more of a steeplechase jump in but once you’ve landed, you have no choice but to ā€œrunā€ out.
