Badminton;

It’s weird! On a phone, press and hold like you wanted to copy the text. A grey Quote box pops up…click it to quote what you highlighted.

OMG I’m so glad you mentioned this. I have wanted to use this feature so many times but I could never figure out how…bless you!

Cheers!

The replays are up for today’s 3 sessions.

Badminton has done a good job on their website this year. All the individual movement scores were easy to find. Rider and horse profiles as well.

Back when I was showing, I got comments like “frisky!” and “whee!” for my mare’s canter departs. She could be, um, very enthusiastic about her favorite gait. (And it’s so sad now that she can’t really canter anymore due to her arthritis. She was definitely a “canter Morgan” … and sometimes a bat-out-of-hell GALLOP Morgan.)

The only times I’ve seen white hooves blackened were at breed shows. I was surprised to see it in an Eventing jog. I wish I had paid attention to the nationalities of the horses that had white hooves blackened, to see if there was any correlation .

There was one horse in the jog with four white socks/stockings who was lovely. IMO his blackened hooves really took away from his appearance.

I remember reading that in Appaloosa shows, clear polish is required (if they choose to polish.) Black is verboten since the stripes are a breed characteristic and must be seen.

Ollie has his first ride (grey horse - Swallow Springs) with blackened hooves in dressage

Many gray horses have black hooves so that’s not surprising. :slightly_smiling_face:

As I mentioned, I am older so the blackened hoof on a white leg in sport horse competition may be a new thing. It was not done by anyone that I knew back in the day.

My gray mare had black hooves as well.

Ye s-- if they don’t have white markings on their lower legs, they will have dark hooves, right?

Right, but we were discussing blackened hoofs - like with hoof black paint.

I think it looks fine personally - I grew up with an Appy so had to use clear.

As a rule, yes. I am unfamiliar with dilute colored horses so I have no idea about their hooves.

Black hoof polish has been around for decades and there’s always someone who uses it at these big shows. I remember kvetching (to myself) about it at then-Rolex, and if I remember right it was one of Ollie’s horses too.

Every barn/groom has different tools in their turnout kit, but black hoof polish has never been in mine. I feel it detracts from the horse, even if the horse has solid dark hooves.

Yes we were, and we are expanding the discussion of hooves. You mentioned gray horses. As @quietann mentioned, whether a gray horse has black or white hooves (or a combination of the two) depends on if the gray has white markings on it’s legs.

Maui Baum had a lovely test. Just a few errors. What a quality horse and rider.

Yes - someone above asked if there was a trend in US horses using hoof black or not. I just wrote my observation of the only horse i have seen with it so far.
I understand hoof colors
