Badminton;

Hoof black has been around forever. I asked if hoof black on white hooves was a new thing in sport horses. There were several in the jog which was why I mentioned it.

There is one in the replay of the dressage that I am watching now. Four whites and all hooves blackened.

Badminton TV subscribers – do they offer on demand ā€œreplaysā€ of the day’s competition like Kentucky’s livestream did?

I think hoof black is more about trends and what people like.

Kind of like my question on the Rolex thread, smaller braids on almost everything, I sort of think grooming should be it’s own sub thread at big competitions! Lol.

He’s a neat little horse eh! I love how they came up with his name!

ā€œI think it’s his first test on grass and, while he’s never made me nervous going in to dressage, I was a bit ā€˜hmmmm’ yesterday when working him, so I played it a bit safe in there,ā€ she said. ā€œI’m super proud of him.ā€

Forgive me for stating the obvious, but why don’t you PRACTICE YOUR TEST ON GRASS, then?

Maybe I’m overreacting, but it’s stupid little things like these that make me wonder why we waste money on sending competitive horse and rider combos abroad only for them to ā€œfall victimā€ to the conditions. It’s the same excuse they all give when they pull 4 rails in SJ and complain that it wasn’t on footing. SMDH.

I mean, I think it’s entirely possible that she has schooled on grass but never competed on grass before, since I’m not aware of any US events these days that run dressage on grass.

Not saying the US hasn’t had plenty of issues performing at the top levels of the sport in recent years, but Tami put in by far the best test of the US riders, so she can’t have been that poorly prepared.

I’m sure she practiced on grass…there just aren’t any huge U.S. competitions that run dressage on grass so pretty tough to replicate the conditions. Schooling and showing are two completely different things.

I wonder if Just Kidding is a handful, considering his breeding.
The Sadlers Wells sire line is getting some good jumpers. It’s fun to see familiar TB racing pedigrees in Eventing. :slightly_smiling_face:

I’d hope so, but given most ULRs’ aversion to anything that’s not groomed footing, I don’t think it’s our strong suit.

She wintered at Will’s, and my husband warmed up for a cross country lesson while she was riding, on the grass, practicing a bunch of the upper level movements, and then some.

From what everything thing I have ever heard about her, she is the pro we should all look up to. Also, she would have familiarized on the grass the day before too.

Laura Collett & London 52 into the lead

Per Equiratings, a 21.0 is the best score at Badminton by a woman, beating Pippa Funnell’s 2002 score out by just .1

Glad to hear it, then. It’s been an issue in the past where we’ve (the US) left many points on the table for silly reasons, so seems like we’re learning.

I know it’s not always feasible, but I definitely think having dressage and/or SJ on grass at upper level events here at home should be encouraged. Some events in Area 2 have it, but many (Unionville, Fair Hill, etc) have changed to footing. I think it’s a good test of balance - provided it’s not rock hard or knee deep mud. I like that Carolina Itnl still holds SJ on turf. :+1:

I love their podcast, one of my favs

She lives in California, which is a desert lol Don’t think she gets many opportunities to school on grass like that. Even the grass in Florida is different.

WOW was Lauras test ever nice…London 52 is looking absolutely stunning.

Also (not to pile on I think it was a valid question to ask, especially since it wasn’t clear from the article that she had been schooling on grass) but she’s still sitting 5th on a 25.3, which is hardly something to scoff at.

Obviously we know Mai Baum is capable of a better test but she’s still ahead of 65 (at the moment) other competitors who probably have been schooling/competing on grass!
