I am balling my eyes out like a baby. This is so horrible.
Thank you Virginiabred
I had hoped that veterinary medicine would be advanced enough to save Barbaro, not just for him but for the others who may come along with this same injury. All I can hope for is that one day they make enough breakthroughs in laminitis research to finally find some useful ways to combat or even prevent it.
My heart goes out to the people who were so involved for so long in this battle, and of course to Barbaro for all that he endured with dignity. I had such high hopes of getting to see another Triple Crown winner. Watching this year’s Derby is going to be rough.
Virginiabred, I wanted to say thank you for the updates. I have enjoyed all of the other news and notes that you have passed along as well as Barbaro’s updates. I would love to see you start a new thread and continue with a daily (or however often) posting of life and news from the backside. I’ve gotten in the habit of clicking on your updates first. Life has taken me away from the backside, but I miss it still. These postings allow me to live it vicariously again.
Thats is right, he will never be forgotten! I think the Jacksons and everyone involved allowed him to become “Americas Horse”! RIP Big One! THANK YOU TO VB, ALEX, THE JACKSONS, DR. DEAN, NBC, AND ANYONE I’M FORGETTING FOR YOUR EFFORTS, YOUR UPDATES, AND YOUR LOVE FOR BARBARO!
To everyone on this BB the best thing we can do is ignore TS (obviously they have never loved an animal they way that most/all on this BB have and have ever felt heartbreak in the loss of an animal)! If they are this cruel and heartless on a BB that is here so people can say THANK YOU and give each other a ((hug)) then are probably just enjoying the fact that they can get a rise out of you/us! THE BEST THING YOU/WE CAN DO IS IGNORE THIS PERSON!
Continue the posts for the reason that we are here, to remember a GREAT HORSE & A TRUE CHAMPION!
PEACE TO YOU ALL!

VirginiaBred, again, thank you, thank you, thank you for all the updates you brought so many of us for the past 8 months. Thank you for helping many of us keep believing that miracles can and do happen. The Jacksons, Dr. Richardson, Michael Matz, all the caretakers and well-wishers have all done the very best they could do for this brave horse. He will be remembered for years and years and years along with all the greats and not so greats.
DITTO and please give our deepest condolences to those who were so close to Barbaro.
Speed and green pastures, Barbaro
Thoughts and sympathy to all involved. He tried so hard, and fought so long… as I said on another thread just today, life sure can turn on a dime, for better or for worse, can’t it? I watched the Preakness so eagerly, thinking about what could be… and now I sadly read this thread, feeling so sad for what could have been.
I am not a religious person, but… godspeed to you, Barbaro.
Like most of you, I am sitting here in tears… don’t know how the news will spin this story… my feelings: Barbaro had heart… his owners and the medical team around him had heart. They tried their very best… and almost pulled off a miracle. They put their heart and soul into the effort… and that is as much as any of us can do. Hopefully veterinary medical science has learned a great deal from the experience, so his treatment was not in vain… not remotely in vain.
This was a remarkable effort. I make no judgment about whether it was right or wrong, except this: IF they had succeeded (which they almost did), they would all be heroes. It takes courage to try, courage to take the risk with such a high-profile chance for failure. I applaud the courage of the owners and the medical team. And I admire their ultimate compassion and wisdom to make the right decision for Barbaro when the time came.
RIP Barbaro
RIP Barbaro
Godspeed, Barbaro!
Thank you, VB, for this thread.

New Bolton Press Conference on ESPN at 4pm EST.
Anyone know if you can view the conference online as I am at work at the moment! I’d really like to hear what they say.
Too sad
May he have the greenest pastures in which to frolic.

…me too
I haven’t been following the entire story the way many others have and I am not involved with, or even a fan, of the racing industry. But how can anyone not be moved by his emotional life. So incredibly sad that he couldn’t make it work, but I sure respect his owners and the team that worked so hard and TRIED, we can’t ask for more.
Run on my dear.
ESPN videos are up although Jeanine Edwards one isn’t working well (guess too much traffic). Nothing from NBC itself yet. http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/horse/index
Videos are on right side
Oh, Mrs. Jackson is killing me…the tears you can hear in her voice and the grief you can see in her face.
Nothing on ESPN or ESPN2 at the moment but I just tuned in and might have missed it?

I wanted to add my thanks to VB for starting this thread, for keeping us updated, and for giving those of us who are so far away, a place to ‘come’ and feel that we were a part of this wonderful horse and what we hoped and prayed was his recovery.
Yes, thanks SO much. I so appreciated being able to check in here for the latest news, whether good or bad. RIP, Barbaro.

Link please?
OK scratch CNN, they let you watch a few minutes then they want you to PAY for it. I already PAY for it at home thanks very much. The press conference is probably winding down now so hopefully it will be up on other sites.
Class to the end.
It won’t let me view the pipeline without subscribing?
