More like the ‘classic’ scale breyer, not the larger ‘traditional’ scale breyer. I got the bulk of myine in teh early nineties where they were sold seperately, but there would be breed familes. Like a bay morgan stallion, a bay morgan mare, and a bay morgan foal. Of course, most breeds used the same mold, so certianly not very accurate or realistic! LOL
Thank you, now it will be stuck in my head the rest of the day. I had one (1) Breyer, when I was “old enough to take care of him.” Which was approximately age 14. Their foxhunter had a remarkable resemblance to my first horse. He still decorates a bookcase at my mom’s house, at home amongst the hunt prints. I learned to sew making blankets for the Grand Champions, and Grandma taught me to embroider so I could monogram them all.
I had no interest in seeing Barbie but my husband does and my friends said it was good so we are going. My introduction to Barbie was with my mother’s OG model from the 60’s! I had a few of the dolls, but after too many legs snapped off at the mounting block, someone got me a Brenda Breyer for my birthday.
Trust me. As the least girly girl that ever lived I went and saw Barbie and it’s wonderful. Signed all I ever played with as a child were Breyers and an oil drum laid on its side I pretended was a horse.
Omg.
To this day, I don’t know what happened to the one plastic bridle I never found. I must have searched my room for it countless times.
A friend of mine later developed the theory that my mother had hid it somewhere so I would be too occupied searching for it to get in any trouble. Lol.
Interesting that they were this close to getting that English saddle correct. Or maybe that’s one of those newfangled flank girths I’ve heard about.
You mean the built in bucking strap lol?
The apples 🥲how I completely forgot about those
Bless you, MadTrotter, for making me laugh out loud. I love knowing that I’m possibly not the only one who took the second and third stories off of doll houses to make barns and used rolled cotton for wraps, pringles for saddles and cut up old tshirts for blankets.
I was too focused on putting classified ads for horses for sale in my dad’s briefcase to care too much about Barbie horses or Breyers. I did have a lot of My Little Ponies, but I think that wasn’t because I wanted them. That said, I do have a Barbie horse IRL now, and I love her. Although, I was more excited that she is a warmblood jumper who looks like a Rodeo Queen. She’s a Buckskin.
Omg. The guinea pig. Bless his soul.
I was already a poor adult when the Breyer horses came out. I always wanted a couple but no room for them anyway. We did have some fiberglass horse statues that were painted and decorated and put out in the city a couple of years ago. I bought a 12 in. one that was quite attractive, but one of my maniac cats actually pushed the heavy thing off the shelf and it broke into several pieces.
I played with super duper tiny choke-hazard plastic horses. I don’t remember the brand?
I would wait until my mom vacuumed the carpet, then use my finger to draw out my stables and paddocks and stuff. My parents got my a golf ball display thing that fit each horse perfectly, and I’d put them away in the same spot every time.
I love the fact that this thread started out as a Barbie thread, and is now mostly about Breyer (and other) horses.
My childhood: no Barbies (according to my parents, the Catholic Church was anti-Barbie) (because she had breasts and could be undressed), lots of Breyer horses.
I’ll never forget when I was like eight years old, night before my sister’s wedding. The family went out to dinner. The restaurant was at one end of a shopping center and a Woolworths, where they sold Breyer Horses, was at the other end. I was so bored with the conversations about the wedding, I got up and walked out. I thought I told them where I was going, but maybe I didn’t or they didn’t hear me.
It was like I was sleepwalking and those toy horses were calling to me. haha. Parents called the police looking for me. An hour later, my dad comes storming into Woolworths and there I was, hypnotized by the rows of Breyer horses. Never forget shrinking down in the back seat of the car as we were leaving, and looking back to see two cops pointing at me. All I wanted to tell them is it wasn’t my fault. The horses did it. I was a crazy horse girl. Still am.
I kind of want to see the Barbie movie as the trailer looks good, it has a good cast, and the reviews are pretty good also.
My cousin was the Barbie kid, not me. But I played with hers a lot. She had the dream house, the car, both Dallas and Midnight (I think I had them too).
We both also had a ton of Breyer horses. I had Brenda Breyer, and was grateful she could actually sit on a horse unlike Barbie. I also had some soft little clown dude that rode a lot of the Breyer horses, and the bendy Pink Panther was a good rider as well, LOL.
Our Breyer horses had full and adventurous lives. They had sprawling ranches in the backyard, they made music videos (The Black Stallion starred in the Thriller video that was made in our front hallway), they had shows, they had to solve mysteries based on Nancy Drew books, they always had storms that would come and destroy their homes/ranches (thanks to my brother who was the storm). They all had names (that weren’t necessarily the ones Breyer had given them) and personalities. And occasionally they got broken legs, which were super glued back on if possible, sometimes just taped back on. Or if the rest of the leg was lost, as was the case with one that I remember, she got a lot of duct tape and a Light Bright peg as a hoof. Whatever kept them in the game!
I still have several on a shelf in my house now that I’m grown. And I’ll admit to getting kind of excited when I stumbled across some Breyerfest hauls on Youtube. Wow. There’s just something about those horses.
OMG, reminds me of the time I called the police because I got left home alone at 4 years old. Nevermind I manipulated the whole situation … told my grandma I was going with my grandpa when he was leaving, then told my grandpa the opposite (going with grandma). They were mad at each other and not talking at the time so neither bothered to check in with the other one. All so I could stay home and play with the Grand Champions. Then I panicked LOL.
I think I played with those Breyer horses until high school.haha. Hours and hours in the front yard, in my own world with the horses. I treated them like people and their “houses” were spread out under the bushes. They were tough, those horses…and the broken legs…oh man. That super glue never seemed to work or I just didn’t have the patience to let it dry. I loved those horses…
I made houses out of coffee table type books.
I am looking forward to seeing it on the small screen but not likely to buy a theater ticket (especially since many people report that lots of kids are being taken to the movie, resulting in an annoying theater experience)
