Bareback pads - money being no object

I had never heard of el Companero- But it definitely looks…untraditional? hehe

The BEST bareback pads are the ones like parelli. They are REALLY well made.
However, I am not into western cinches, I much prefer a dressage girth. SO I bought this one:

It has the same great suede as parelli and very very sturdy. Then it has leather billets around. The billets are stitched with nylon in between so they are durable.
I sometimes used a saddle pad- or even a wither pad under mine if I am riding my thoroughbred, I thinks it’s more comfortable for him that way-plus he has a huge bouncy trot and it provides more cushion. But for quarter horses with low withers suede bareback pads are usually not problem. Good luck!

I have used these and they are exactly like parelli’s, just less

Does anyone know anything about the Comfort Plus Bareback Pad? I think it’s got the same maker as the Best Friend Bareback Pad. It looks like there may be a bit more padding in the seat area and has Ds front and back that things could be attached to.

I just bought that comfort pad in black. I really like the stretch in the cinch and it is very comfortable on most of my horses. But I do use an extra pad for my bony boy. It has more material in front of my knees so you do not end up with your leg on the horse as my other pad did. It stays in place very well and for the price is perfect for what I need. Bought it on Ebay with free shipping…

Thanks Countryclips.

Have a Christ - the premium one, with the “thigh blocks” - LOVE it. Soft, squishy and secure!

But… the long billets (which I love, since I’m not so good at tying a proper cinch knot) are pretty darn long. I had to buy a very short dressage girth (24" I think) for my guy - he’s an Arab/AppX around 14.3 - and my regular short girth for my dressage saddle was MUCH too long for him.

That’d be my only caveat on the Christ.[/QUOTE]

I’ll second this… got a 24" dressage girth with my Christ pad which is my mare’s “normal” girth size. I wound up needing an 18" instead! I ride a 15.2 hh QH/Paint with plenty of barrel.

I ride in a wide-width Solstice on both of my horses (two diversely different breeds). I use either a woolbak, a thin cotton pad, or both.

Can’t ever go wrong with a woolbak. Also have a woolbak double elastic girth, it is fairly new, it is working well. Very much so like each, both are worth their prices. The woolbak lasts a long time, haven’t worn mine out just yet, and I wash it frequently, hang to dry on the fence. I like clean pads, so wash ability of a pad is very important to me.

My vote is a woolbak pad.

I love my Little Joe pad. I end up using it even over my treeless its so comfy and secure. And you can use stirrups too.

I have a Baretek, dressage style. http://www.equestriancollections.com/brands.asp?bc=284 We have steep hills where I ride and those thigh blocks and cantle really come in handy. It takes a dressage girth and has d-rings for a breastplate, which I’ve never had to use. No matter how steep the hill, the pad has never slipped. I feel very secure in that pad.

cashel soft saddle!!!
