Bareback pros and cons for Dressage

Yes, sitting bareback puts your legs in a good position. I remember back when I rode forward seat we always had at least one bareback lesson a term. Some of the students set their legs and feet as if they were riding in a saddle. So that is one way to do it. I always preferred to let my legs hang them selves into a good position fitting the horse’s barrel.

True - so how about you mostly train with saddle and bridle, and you compete without…I think it would be VERY enlightening…:smiling_imp:

it would indeed! We could see how well the rider really rides!

a little bit off track here, but…as a Portuguese Water Dog person, i’ve always thought they should have either a Shaved dog class or a Wet dog class to see what the dog-underneath-the-coat really looks like!

I was probably more like 60 lbs at 12, but it does help to do it younger for sure. I rode mostly bareback until I was tall enough to get a saddle on my horse.
