Bark deterrent?

Learning to be crated as an adult is sort of like having a puppy again. As is moving to a new house. It might take some time before she is on schedule again.

Why isn’t he a fan of the dog? (Is this the “spouse’s dog” or something?)

To be honest I’d recommend going back to pretending the dog is an 8 week old puppy and building up from there. Not sure that is what he will want to hear if he’s already thinking of moving the dog to the garage. Does he still have the other dog? And where does it sleep?

The K9 passed away a few years ago, earlier post :). Yes this is the “spouse dog.” She isn’t learning to be crated, she has been crated before but it was with the other dog or next to the dog. I get his frustration of not being able to sleep and needing to sleep. I’ll recommend the sonic egg thing because she is only crated when he/they are sleeping, so no noises to accidentally set it off.

Our small barky dog who poops and pees in the house is quieter, and will hold it longer, when she sleeps under the covers. She has us trained quite well. I feel for your coworker.

She is not a puppy?[/QUOTE]

Doesn’t matter. Dogs are pack animals that want to be with their family. Put crate beside bed, and give her something to chew, like a bully stick, or antler. Have him drape his arm over side of bed to let her know her is there.

Ummm jetsmom, I don’t see that happening

Thanks all, will recommend trying the sonic egg.

He wouldn’t have to sleep all night like that. Or even every night. Just initially when he first gets into bed, or if she yips. A “Hush”, and putting your arm there, just lets them know they aren’t alone. After about 3 nights, the dog would most likely be quiet all night.
The dogs that do that usually are lonely and just want to know they aren’t alone. After a couple nights they are usually fine.
