Bizarre. Everywhere else in life, that person would be responsible for their actions (car accident, carelessness, neglect, property damage). But not here - here they get to skate.
I mean MOST people/tenants are very responsible and respectful. The average single family home here is 1.7 million and the average 1 bedroom condo rent is $2000. Most people care where their money is going and keeps their place very nice. We even give tax breaks to tenants under âlease holder improvementsâ for fixing stuff up.
We still have laws on how many pets a person can have in a house/apartment. They are just equal for everyone - home owners and renters alike (in Ontario)
Maybe that is part of the difference. Where I am at, a lot of people who rent do so because they canât afford to buy/have poor credit/lack job stability/etc. That doesnât typically translate to âresponsible renterâ. There arenât a lot of nicer rentals in my area either which alludes to prospective tenants. When I went to sell my house I talked to some people about renting it and the consensus was its too big and would cost more than anyone would be willing to agree to sign a lease for.
Not always the case of course, I rented a place at my old barn for the year after I sold my house and my landlord said I left it in the best shape she had seen. SOâs tenant seems pretty good and his sister also has several rentals in the area too, but its been hit or miss over the years. I just donât get the impression that great renters are anywhere near the norm in my area hence being a little incredulous how much tenants elsewhere seem to have so much of an upper hand.
What is insane in the US is that banks wonât give a mortgage to somebody that is already paying $2000/mo in rent when their mortgage payments might be $1200/mo.
So people get trapped in rentals, unable to save up enough for a downpayment on a house.
Sure. But thereâs always the blood from the stone thing.
Same here. The prices Iâve seen lately on our local message boards are downright jaw dropping.
