Barn/chore coat smell....

If it’s not Tide I’m not satisfied. lol.

Vinegar though does wonders on gunk. I used vinegar+soapy water to get gunk off of leather goods and also for natural fiber products (i.e. wool)

Wet animals have a stink rating

Horse < sheep << alpaca

That’s what I’ve experienced so far. Not sure about other animals.

I did not know you could put powdered soap in a HE front load?

Try using the Nikwax rug wash (not to be confused with the Rug Proof waterproofer). I’ve gotten so I use that for all my horse laundry and for some smelly human laundry. It works well.

My LG has a special cup insert that you have to use for liquids. Powdered detergent just goes right in the tray.

How old is your machine? Always had front loaders, like the way they clean and use of less water, did find that front loaders have numerous filters and over a period of time scum clogs the filters. Even after replacing filters and cleaning machine periodically, I noticed the clothes were not as fresh smelling. Decided to replace the front loader … clothes do not smell anymore and I got rid of residual odor on clothes with Borax and I use odoban (Home Depot) from time to time.

When we bought our front loader the sales guy said that if you want to avoid a smelly machine then to NEVER use liquid detergent. We’ve been using powder tide for the 4 years we’ve had the machine and it’s still as fresh as the day we bought it.

I second (third?) Borax (20 Mule! Cool box!) and I have little plastic tubs in the back of my car - change after the barn and keep the coat in the tub. Boots in another tub. Voila! No smell.

I always use some Arm & Hammer Washing Soda or 20 Mule Team Borax on all my barn clothes. Never had an odor problem washing this way.[/QUOTE]

I used this for some really rank blankets… I let them soak for ~12 hours. I was pretty generous with the stuff…but I doubt your coat smells as bad as these blankets did. They came out smelling like not much at all, which was a huge improvement.
