That is the failsafe latch, not the main latch on his stall. He doesn’t mess with his latch. Every time his stall was unlocked, he was face deep in hay and staff admitted it missing it. The first time he was in a stall where he couldn’t physically reach the latch if he wanted to. And again, his stall isn’t the only one that I walked into not latched in our barn.
I am glad you have an extra latch. My comment is more of a general one. I have 6 horses at home, and maybe 2 wouldn’t try to play with the latch, even if they had hay If a horse can get their head over- I am just pointing out it is not uncommon for latch issues.
I’m not disputing what you have witnessed, I am just saying few of mine would be able to be in a stalled living situation where they could reach the latch
“MY opinion”, which is just that, I don’t like that set up and can see how there would be potential issues. This is not a slight against the BO or you or anything.
