I’ve only seen snakes at the barn, no toads or frogs. But at home, we are surrounded, and they yell their heads off all night. I love having them so close; my house backs to wetlands. We have these absolutely miniscule frogs that you can barely see until they hop. They catch a lot of air, and I had one hit me in the face one day when I was out biking. I’m not sure who was more surprised, me or the frog. That is a powerful little frog. I found one of the little guys in my bedroom one night, and my husband had a hell of a time catching it because they are so quick. We were afraid one of us would accidentally squish it since they are so hard to see.
When the temperature stays well into the 80s at night and it’s so muggy that we run the air conditioner at night (which I hate to do), we still open a bedroom window just a little bit so we can hear the frogs.
We have tree frogs that sound like ducks quacking during mating season, pretty small ones that somehow deliver a very loud quack, and something else out in the woods that sounds like a sheep. There are no sheep in the woods, and I’m pretty sure it’s a frog.
