Barns near Boston MA
Will do. It has become apparent that I am most likely not going to be able board at a barn with an indoor or any such luxuries.
Oh well. If the colonists did it so can I. If anyone has recommendations feel free to PM me!
There are a lot of really nice privately owned small farms in the area that would fit the bill financially. You may even luck out and find a few that have indoors, it really depends on your price range and where you are going to be living and how much time/access you’ll have to travel.

I am right on the Medford/Arlington border - near the Mystic Valley Pkwy & 60 intersection. I can probably manage a 30-40 minute commute.
That’s a tough location for getting to barns. Heading north is probably the most efficient, but the traffic will be bad. What kind of schedule are you looking at? If you could avoid rush hour, there are a lot of places you could get to in 40 minutes or so, not much less. Rush hour, it will be tough.

Welcome to the area! I work in Malden, live in Stow (37 miles west), and teach riding in Lunenburg, so I spend a lot of time on the 2-2A corridor. Your best bet is going to be west - Concord, Acton, Bedford, Westford(stay away from driving on 128)…if you can get on the road in the morning or before 4, all of these areas will take less than 30 minutes; for an hour commute, you can get out to the 495 ring. The barns mentioned in Concord are a reasonable drive and have lesson programs…there’s also Churchill Stables in Bedford and Eleazer Davis Farm (though I don’t know if they have school horses), Volo in Westford with a big lesson program, Fair Harbour in Acton (good trainers, not sure about lesson horse options), Red Acre Farm in Stow (the Steegs)…further out is Orchard Hill in Berlin. Liberty Tree Farm in Acton is actually walking distance from the commuter rail station, but I don’t know what their lesson options are. If you are just looking for rides, post on the Equinesite Massachusetts horse scene BB…lots of people can use help getting riding done (especially if you can come out during the day!)

Chestnuthunter, if you are looking for reasonable board, I would suggest looking for a small private farm…the Equinesite bb has a decent classifieds section and you can check the books/boards at Dover, Smartpak, and Pegasus Farm Tack. Anything with an indoor is going to be close to $1000…if you can come further out to central Mass, prices go down quite a bit.

Feel free to pm me for specific info on any of the farms in the area - if I know anything, I’m happy to share.

Woo hoo! Found a great place thanks to you guys. Hopefully I will be flying up for a week in March and can scope it our before committing to it for sure, but it looks perfect.

Where, where?? Sorry - I’m just nosy!

Hillside Meadows is at the top of my list right now  I won’t know for sure if this move is a for sure thing until a few more weeks…but I really like the looks of that barn.

Awesome! I don’t know it personally but have always thought it looks nice! Good luck!

For another variation on the original question - what area(s) make the most sense for someone living in Brookline/Newton? Would getting to the Concord area be a nightmare after work?

Concord may work, but also consider the M towns, medway, millis, medfield, as well as Dover and sherborn.

you’d be better off going out the Mass Pike from Brookline than Route 2/Concord. Check out barns in Berlin MA which is close to 90/495. There are several boarding barns in Berlin MA. Orchard Hill, Highland Hill. I know a few people who live in Newton that board in Berlin.

Thank you, this is helpful!
