Here’s a lil something about the Ashland Basset group if you are interested…
Can’t find my most recent post so I’ll start over again.
Thanks, LexInVa for the link. I loved the pictures and it looked like it was a bit chilly.
Too bad Aldie is over 300 miles away from us. Hopefully, TVH and their association with a Basset Hound Pack will get me started. I think they’ll be closer to us in Breeeeestul.
We just bought some property literally down the road, with the opportunity to acquire two adjoining parcels in the next couple years. I’ll take George out after he grows a bit and we’ll hunt bunnies at our new place.
how about this!
for a good look try…KLMImages.com. KarenL Myers is a photographer and a member of Ashland who takes lotsa pictures of us & other hunts. Try KarenLMyers.org too. Fun!

There is a Basset Pack in TN connected to the Tennessee Valley Hunt. I emailed TVH so I could receive their newsletter. I will email the MBH to inquire about doing the walks. Hopefully they are not too far away.[/QUOTE]
I’m thinking they are no longer “connected”. I believe the Askins have moved on to another part of TN, hunting the Big South Fork area. But very worth tracking them down, you will have good sport and fun with Dick and Lugene hunting the hounds!
Thanks, Centeur!
I’ll check it out. Our little Basset is now starting to bay. It is so funny. He’s my little man.
You are HOOKED 3dogfarm!!

Don’t try and fight it, just go along…
Record the bay with your cellphone. Makes a great ringtone.
LexInVa what a great idea! I wanted Cartman singing the German Dance but we haven’t been able to do it for some reason.
George is starting to bay a lot  more which I love.
Is it normal for Bassets to eat like they have been starving for a month? Just want to know for future reference.
Yes, but that’s probably why so many pet/house bassets are obese and have back problems.
And if he starts begging at the table for God’s sake don’t give him Tabasco sauce as negative reinforcement.
Giuseppe begged and whined in a way that would set off a migraine. Vet suggested giving him a dash of Tobasco to discourage him.
Turned out he LOVED Tobasco. And being a basset he was tenacious. Stubborn. Willful. Determined. Expressive. Vocal. Talkative. Loud.
To his dying day we kept a bottle of Tobasco in the fridge.
I have always fed my dogs free choice though I’m sure there are vets and other dog owners that disagree strongly with that practice. However, with my dogs I found that it worked better, there was no food aggression or issues between/among dogs, and I never had a weight problem with any of the dogs. I’ve always had hounds - though one of my present dogs is a Shepherd mix.
Try singing or howling along with your basset’s baying and see if you can get a duet going. It’s a hoot. (yes, I know I need to get out more)
Hey JSwan,
DH has a gallon of Frank’s Hot Sauce. Not sure he’d want to share ;).
My dad was of German ancestry and an engineer/scientist. I inherited his stubborness. We preferred to say we were “focused”. DH disagrees.
So, it sounds like George will fit right in with my side of the family.
We used to feed free choice and it worked out well. No starving dogs when dinnertime rolled around. Think we will start that again if it works out for George.
