Battery frequently dies on 2014 GMC 2500 pickup???
BUSY - That’s the first thing we checked both times after boosting. But there was nothing left on as far as interior lights, phone chargers, etc.

fanfayre - Yes we do have a block heater on the pickup and yes it has been rather cold here in North Dakota lately … but the pickup is kept in a HEATED GARAGE. So cold isn’t a factor in this case.

Thanks gumtree. We will have to look into that if they don’t find an issue. Again, it’s just nuts to me to think that if I don’t haul my horses somewhere every single weekend, that the truck will die.

Hokiekat - I get what you are saying about needing to drive on a long trip for the battery to be fully charged. The last time the pickup was used was when my husband went scouting and hunting. He drove for HOURS looking for fields for geese, as he always does when scouting. So in this case, the battery had to have been fully charged (unless, of course, bad battery).

But in general, we live 10 miles from town. So if it gets drove into town, it gets at least that much along with the miles to the destination.
Your welcome.

“pickup is kept in a HEATED GARAGE. So cold isn’t a factor in this case”

A bit more information. So scratch out my “cold theory”

When I lived off grid in the mountains of Co I would have to take hot coals from my wood stove and put them under my engine in a trash can lid to get the car started in the mornings.

Anybody that thinks the good ole days where they good ole days never lived in the good ole days.

I look forward to hearing what the problem, issue is. One less T-shirt to buy and throw out.

I had a battery that was dying regularly. It tested fine. It was only 1 year old on a 5 year battery. Once they load tested it then it didn’t test out so well. Sears Diehard. Sears stood behind it the warranty and replaced it.

Well just picked the truck up from the Chevy dealership.

NADA.

At least this manager was good to work with and good about explaining everything. Since they did not find anything wrong, we did have to pay for the visit (which was only $64, no big deal) since then it is not covered under our extended warranty. (Looked into that deeper this morning … interested how the GMC dealership didn’t know that the standard factory warranty had expired 3 months ago…)

He explained how nothing was drawing an extra charge off the battery. Therefore, he said it doesn’t make sense for the mechanic to start checking each fuse individually, because there should at least be some sort of extra draw if one of them is acting up. Which makes sense to me.

He said they would be more than happy to keep digging and digging but he doesn’t know if they would find anything (and if they don’t, then we would have a bigger bill). We agreed that it’s probably not worth the money to have them keep on digging, when everything does seems to check out on the surface.

So I guess we’ll leave things as is … and wait for it to happen again (or hopefully not).

Dang. Was really hoping they would find something.

if you have replaced your alternator and that did not solve the problem, then replace your battery cables. BTDT.
