Ok, I’ll try either the stiff cone shaped boots or the scalping boots. Reasonable enough price to charge to the owner. I can ask the trainer which one she thinks the staff would be more likely to put on. Not that I have any idea why they wouldn’t put on the other boots which are perfectly fine…I think there must have been a conflicting opinion somewhere, even though the owner seemed on board. When I asked the guys to put turnout boots on my horse for a little while for his splint bone issue, they had no problems with my request… Some horses do get boots, and as it is they have to remove her standing wraps every day along with those of another couple of horses with different issues…so it’s not like it’s a special service, although as I said, this is the BO’s horse, so if anyone was to get special service, should be this horse! So instead they pay me to fix this problem, and while I’m happy to take a few bucks every day for forever, horse would really like it if I didn’t wrap her all the time, and I’d have a lot less laundry to do.
You can avoid making the staff put on/take off boots - my horse wears the cone shaped boots 24/7 in turnout and his stall. They occasionally collect bedding or some mud on the inside of the boots, but as they break in, I find they don’t usually have much debris trapped inside them.
I will sometimes give him a break from the boots for a day or two if it’s really wet out (so if he falls, it’s not hard ground). He’s prone to scratches so I watch carefully for rubs or skin issues.
