Belmont Stakes 2015
thanks for posting this. I didn’t get to watch the rest of the festivities when it was telecast.
You are welcome. I was so wrapped up in my first horse show after a very unfortunate series of events last year that kept me off for a year that I completely forgot about the race. Started getting all these texts from people asking if I was over the moon and I’m just kind of :confused: until my son clued me in. Had to go mad googling to find the whole thing to make up for my self centeredness! LOL!

Did you read the thread about the Bring Chrome Home people? There are crazy, crazy people out there…
I did. Some people are very strange.

Found this - awesome video!!

OK. I’ve been only sorta paying attention, but where are the Monster Girls?
I saw them very briefly. It was when they were taking Pharoah from the barn to the paddock to be saddled. I saw two of the girls walking next to Pharoah but it was only on camera for 1-2 seconds. I was glad that NBC barely showed it. Maybe they thought it was stupid too.

One of those charities was Old Friends. I like to think it’s a nod to Silver Charm
My newsletter from Old Friends yesterday showed a photo of Baffert and Bode visiting Silver Charm shortly before this year’s Derby. It said Bob and Jill Baffert donated $200,000 to four different charities, one of which was Old Friends ($50K to each charity). Old Friends is my favorite charity.

I am surprised and so happy at the generosity of Baffert and Espinoza… They each won $80K and donated more and all of their winnings. The owners won the biggest chunk… any info about any donation to any charity???

Zayat probably had to make a large donation to that bookie he stiffed:) Just kidding, his rabbi said he’d a very generous man so maybe he doesn’t make a big public deal of it.

FalseImpression I have been waiting to hear about a donation from the owners as well. After all, they have a lot more money than either the trainer or jockey, even without their winnings and it seems kind of strange they have not pledged anything yet. But hopefully they will follow the lead of the Bafferts and Victor Espinoza soon, I’m sure they have a lot going on right now. Today’s paper mentioned they are trying to nail down several marketing deals while the Triple Crown is still big news, even trying to get AP’s picture on a Wheaties box.

I would buy that box of Wheaties.

When is the Breyer coming out?

oh man, if they came out with a box a Wheaties, I’d buy a whole case!

Headline on The Bloodhorse said 95% of the $2 tickets on the Belmont had not
been cashed. Mine, if I had one, would be in a frame and on the wall.

I totally just ordered the Blood Horse special edition.

I would definitely get a Breyer too! I have Secretariat and Rachel Alexandra, and a couple more as ornaments.

When I went up to place my wager the lady at the window laughed. “I guess you’ve been getting a lot of those today”.

She nodded.

Fred Stone apparently is doing a print…

I totally want a Breyer, even if I don’t think their sculptures have been as good in recent years as they used to be. I have War Admiral, regular Secretariat, Gold Charm Secretariat, and Affirmed.

Totally agree, but I’d have to buy this one anyway.

I just read that Bob Baffert and his wife donated the $150,000 winnings they received to three charities. Victor Espinoza donated an equal amount to City of Hope.
I think it’s great that the Bafferts donated a big chunk to charities, especially TB ones. But I did read that BB was paid $200k to have the Burger King King standing behind him…
That’s not quite as generous.

I can’t back this up, but I think I remember reading somewhere that the BK money was also donated - I will hunt around to see if I can put my money where my mouth is.

Edit: Here, from the Courier Journal. “According to Sports Illustrated, Burger King offered Baffert a deal for $150,000 before Preakness for a similar appearance. We’re told the trainer shot it down, but the King got in the Belmont shot for charity…Jill Baffert, his wife, told Time in an interview after the Belmont the deal was worth $200,000, part of the donation to thoroughbred aftercare and Permanently Disabled Jockey Fund.”

Oldernewbie, thanks from me, too, for posting the link to the afterwards stuff.

Has anyone else ever done the parade for the fans that happened this time? It was very heartwarming!

And what’s the Gold Charm Secretariat Bryer model?

I really have to kick myself, I had one of these, signed and everything, and sold it a while back to help pay bills back in my poor days. sigh

I really really wanted one when it came out, but my parents said no given the price the Derby Museum wanted. Ironically twenty years later I paid the same amount (obviously less adjusted for inflation) to get one on Ebay. Because when I want something I want it!
