Bemer Blankets

I had no idea the Bemer blankets were that much! I think we spend too much on supplements and blankets etc to make ourselves feel better because we are getting away from how a horse should live. They need lots of turnout and to be ridden outside of a ring. Sadly, land has become too expensive to let a horse live a more natural life in many areas of the country.

I have to add-the product that drives me batty is Ulcer Eraser. There is no science behind it and the name is so misleading. You really do need to evaluate if there is research done on horse Wellness products. I am grateful to the vet who told me a decade ago to put my money towards Adequan rather than a bunch of supplements.

Just a note that there are a fair number of studies on PEMF in humans and in some situations it has even been validated as a potential surgical alternative. Horses are not nearly as simple to study, but anecdotally, I have seen success with those I’ve personally interacted with. In terms of all the $$$$ I’ve spent on crap for horses over the years, the ActivoMed has been probably the #1 thing I’ve gotten my money’s worth from.

I had fantastic results with my horse with Bemer and also feel like I got my money’s worth from it. I think one if the biggest issues with this technology is that in order for it to work, the horse has to have an actual condition that could benefit from PEMF. I think a lot of people turn to therapies hoping for a magic cure without looking at what the vet is saying or at the horse from a holistic perspective. Also, some horses don’t tolerate PEMF and tense up from the vibration. But just because it irritated their horse doesn’t mean it irritates all horses. And just because it didn’t work for them or their horse doesn’t mean it doesn’t work for anyone’s horse. Also, so much depends on expectations. With BEMER, I’ve noticed some improvements are subtle, and others less so. Some people are happy with subtle improvements, others not so much. And not everyone is capable of seeing/feeling/noticing small improvements. So much depends on the expectation of the horse owner going in. Those who expect quick improvements as with joint injections will probably never be satisfied with long-term ongoing therapies like PEMF.

Great post!

Yes, to the above post! I tried PEMF on my guy because he can get tight and someone else was using the person for her horse and was happy. After a couple of treatments, my takeaway is that it made him feel like he’d already warmed up a little bit, but I can do that myself by, you know, warming him up. He really didn’t need it, although he clearly thought it was a very nice massage. I like to make my horse happy, but I can do that with a big flake of alfalfa, too.

I have had great success with other horses with acupuncture and chiro, and I like how the BoT mesh sheet helps my boy’s back warm up when it is cold before work. I’ve had luck with the quick wraps on a horse who used to get stocked up, but standings would have worked just as well. I used the BoT ones because the barn staff found them easier to deal with.

I think many of these therapies are something we use to make ourselves feel better when sometimes the underlying issues either aren’t actually issues (i.e. a horse that is not in heavy work doesn’t really need a weekly massage, but the owner likes to have it done), or if they are issues, there are better solutions (if the horse not in work needs a weekly massage, there is something else going on there!).

We are really happy with this technology. Human and horse. Its not a magic bullet, but by getting the microvascular circulation flowing and duper oxygenated, the body recovers better and performs at its best.

I wpuld disagree the horse needs an actual condition to benefit from PEMF. All the horse needs is to have blood. As well, the therapy is not PEMF, but the patented signal created by Bemer. The effectiveness time is also patented ( 18-24htlrs).
Where PEMF comes in is as a conduit for the signal to the body.
thats why the PEMF wave can be so low. Its basically at the same frequency as the earth’s magnetic field,

I’m being told by reps that the technology allows supplements to be better absorbed due to increase in blood flow/circulation. Thoughts?

I didn’t mean to imply that it doesn’t benefit all horse (and people - I’ve sure wrapped myself in ours!). I think that changes are significantly less subtle when the horse doesn’t have a condition that most benefits from it, and so people disregard it and then tell people it’s “voodoo” or the stuff of “snake oil salesmen
” etc
If you have a horse who stocks up and you use the leg wraps, you SEE a difference. Not everyone sees that difference and then think it’s not working, or don’t see the cost/benefit.

My previous horse LOVED the BEMER. He would fall asleep with it on and it really helped him stay relaxed and calm while on stall rest, and even helped him to settle in at shows. My new horse doesn’t respond the same way so to some it might look like he’s not getting much out of it, when we know there is a holistic impact to the horse as you mentioned. Sorry if I was not clear in how I posted.

I own the old style blanket with the single cuff. I use it a lot in my therapy business. I have seen huge improvements on neurotic/nervous horses. My horse chiro also sends clients to me for it as she has seen improvements on how long her treatments stay after following up with the blanket. I also use it on my personal horse before and after I ride, it makes our warm up easier, and after a hard ride, he feels much less “stiff” on our next ride.

Old thread but just for fun
I once had dinner with the retired CEO of Tractor Supply. When it came up I told him that I had a small farm just outside of town. He asked, “Horse or cattle?” When I told him “horse.” He said, “Oh we love horse people, you guys will buy anything!”

Still thinking about buying a Bemer but was wondering

I am being told that essentially the regular PEMF treatment with the tubes can get more done every 6 weeks than the Bemer used daily? What is better, and why?
