Bensmom saddle soap - the review thread (if that's okay with Bensmom)

Got mine yesterday–Rosemary Mint. Smells FAB! I’ll try it out in the next couple of days. Thank you Bensmom!!!

PS–The story/note ROCKED!

I think a lot of products do a {decent} job of cleaning tack, but my usual complaints are that they are either too watery or too gunky. I hate having gooby saddle soap stuck to my nails after cleaning tack.

Your soap was a really good consistency; not gunky, not so thick it went on in globs, and NO RESIDUE :applause:

This soap sounds amazing, I especially love the sound of the citrus ginger, two of my favourite scents <3

(Won’t ask you for a sample as I’m in the UK, but if it was over here I’d try this in a shot)

I received my sample of the citrus ginger yesterday. Might have time to clean my boots before I leave today, but will update in the next few days when I get to my tack. Really excited! Smells wonderful and I LOVE the hand written thank you and print out of the story. I am all for supporting small business and touches like that make a difference to me  I already have a list of people I want to buy some soap for should I love its cleaning abilities as much as I love everything else about it thus far!

This stuff is perfect for cleaning boots. I am really anal about my paddock boots because they DON’T last if I don’t clean them every day, so I wiped them off with a damp rag, then flipped the rag over and wiped some of this stuff on and they look and feel great.

Mine is citrus ginger as well.

How/where do we purchase this magical soap?

Not for sale just yet but I am betting bensmom is going to start a waiting list

Well, I have been so encouraged by everyone’s positive comments, so I pushed the “open shop” button on etsy . . .

Wheeeeee!!

I will want to use comments from you testers, if that is ok with everyone!

I’ll be happy to give you a before and after of my Tad Coffin, which has a wonderful ability to look like hell when dirty…

Woohoo just placed my order!!

Hey Bensmom, how big are the containers? Just curious and couldn’t find it on the Stay listing.

:lol::lol: Not sure if it’s at all related, but after cleaning bridles and reins with “Confidence” yesterday and snorting it this morning (it smells very nice!) I had two of the nicest drives I have had in a while with the two pony heathens that live here!

OK. So, I gave it a whirl on the Toby-trashed post xc tack. Here are my thoughts. I’m going to compare it a lot to Tatersall, which has been my favorite cleaner (til now???), and has a similar-ish history.

It does smell nice, but it is subtle. One thing I notice NOW (that I’m done), my hands don’t stink and aren’t sticky-gross like after using Tatersall.

It is MUCH lighter that Tatersall, but cleans easily. Even with the salty, grimy grossness of Toby’s tack. I started out using a barely damp sponge, like I do with Tatersall and wasn’t loving it. It DOES need to be truly damp. But no foam (I HATE foamy saddle soap!). And I liked it way better.

I did exactly as Bensmom says in “the Story of the Soap” and wiped it on and off. Normally, I run a damp rag over my tack, THEN soap. Didn’t need to. It loosened and removed the gross grimies without extra help…even the nastiness that were my reins.

Tack is now soft and shiny but not sticky. Pretty impressive considering how gross it was and that I basically just gave it a gentle scrub with a sponge (after xc a week ago, I hosed all his tack off before I cleaned it).

I’m impressed. I took pictures that I uploaded to FB, but they aren’t showing up. Go figure.

Sorry double post.

I’m sold and now plan on buying some today! The question is: which scent!??!

I already put my order in… chose the vanilla/lavender! Excited to get it and try it!

I’m a soap maker…but I’m ordering some (I’ve never made saddle soap though) ;). It sounds fab!

Plan to order some too. Sounds amazing and I have a bunch of tack to clean.

Am interested in the question asked above though, how big are the containers?

So glad y’all asked that! They are 8 oz. :). I will go add that to the listing!

YB, thank you for your review! I’m really so glad that folks do like it!

I JUST PUT IN AN ORDER
