I just received mine! I will be posting a review shortly (I’m very picky, so I’ll be honest!). I ordered citrus-ginger. I’m not crazy about the smell inside the jar, but its by no means bad. I love that it came with a sponge (even though I buy those huge packs, they always walk off quickly…), and the candies were so sweet
Question for you…I have my soap, love it so far…
except I left the sponge in the container and it absorbed a lot of the soap. I must have put it in there too wet? Now am afraid to store inside the container.
Also, since (confession) i haven’t been religious about cleaning my tack after every ride until now, there seems to be a ‘left over’ film on the leather. Should I rinse it off. Seems that I was reading on here that you didn’t need to, am I using too much product…I’m just not sure as it doesn’t lather really BIG.
Hope that is clear as mud!
I do store my sponge in the container, but if you put it in there Really Wet it will dissolve soap. It is best to wring it as dry as possible before returning it to the jar.
As far as the film - are you wiping on and then wiping off? You should not see any soap left on leather when you are done. It isn’t really rinsing off, but if you don’t wipe at the end, you leaving dirt and soap film on. It has conditioners in it, but unlike a balm or conditioner, it isn’t designed to be left on as it would if it were going to soak into the leather. It won’t hurt anything, but if you are seeing a film, it sounds like too much is being left on.
Does that help?
I got mine, can’t wait to use it this weekend, but there was no ‘backstory’ included? Is that not being sent out anymore with the product? I love that you included instructions!
You should start a map and color in the states/countries that your product has been sold to!
I’m glad you got it! Since the story of the soap went on the website, I stopped including it in with soap when it shipped, simply because I included color photos in the page and I didn’t want to try to pint them all at home.
I do have an abbreviated version of it in the brochures we just had printed though, and I think I will start to include one of those in each box. We did them approximately bookmark size, in hopes that folks would want to hang on to them!
A map would be great fun! I need to get my DH to help with that – that is right up his alley!
I look forward to your review!
Libby
I received the soap in the mail yesterday. Super fast shipping! I will try it this weekend on my disgustingly dirty dressage saddle.
Got mine yesterday, thank you soooooo much! I love the scents, not overpowering at all, pleasantly in the background.
Stupid work ruined my driving time this morning (why do people insist I actually do something for payment? Can’t they just pay me cuz I’m nice? ). So, with too little time to drive, I had 30 minutes of thumb twiddling time and decided to try out the soap on a pair of the most disgrosting harness traces you ever did see.
I had purchased this harness used a while back, and while it came to me in safe useable condition it was definitely driven hard and put up wet most of its life. I’ve attempted to scrub it to show ring status many times but never got there. Some of the saddle jockeys from the previous owner are SO stubborn, if I scrubbed hard enough to lift them I actually started pulling the color out of the leather.
So armed with a fruit scrubber I put HS soap to the task today, and I must say I was shocked how easily it pulled up the grime! I only went over each section twice with only a moderate amount of scrubbing and 95% of the grime - even the previous owner’s grime I was considering scraping off with a butter knife - came away before my eyes!
I did take a soft wet cloth and wipe away the dirty foam/film each time, and when I was done my traces were a touch thirsty feeling so I did need to condition them a hair… but goodness, they’re now clean!! First time in… well in the time I’ve owned them certainly! What a gratifying feeling.
My collection of soaps and leather products is vast, I try everything that comes my way. This is hands down the best grime lifting soap I’ve ever tried. I am impressed and ever so grateful!
Hey, can you make a soap for sheath cleaning? I need a grime lifter there too for my perpetually gross gelding
Oh my! I’ve never thought about making one for sheath cleaning! I have one of those geldings that loves it so, so much – it is embarrassing to clean his if anyone is watching – shoot, there are times that he embarrasses me if I’m there alone! I would imagine he would enjoy being the test subject for the soap . . .
I’m so glad it worked so well for you! And, I really do prefer to do it with fast shipping. If I can get an inventory stockpiled and can ship as soon as orders come in, I think it will stay fast, but mostly it is made to order, and so, sometimes orders come in faster than I get soap made. Which is a darn good problem to have, really!
I just love getting your reviews!
Libby
I was so excited to be able to write another review and give more amazing before & after photos…I bought my tiny human an old 15" Crosby that is dirty dirty dirty (is that mold?) from one of the facebook tack groups and it arrived and I was so excited about it…it’s 19"…so it will be going back …though I do kind of want to clean it still just to see that “after” effect"
Ok, so the guinea pig Canadian package arrived yesterday! I ordered one of each scent so I could see which one I liked best - I’ll probably give the others as barn staff thank you gifts.
First off - the package came through Customs with no extra taxes, duty, or problems at all.
I liked all of the scents - they smelled very “fresh herb”-y and not too strong. I didn’t notice the odour that much when actually using it. I tried cleaning my everyday bridle, martingale, paddock boots, and half chaps after deciding on the citrus ginger for me to keep.
The leather did feel more supple after cleaning. I noticed dye coming off of my paddock boots, but I don’t think this was entirely the soap. I had used a leather conditioner with dye in it previously, and the soap seemed to be lifting quite a bit off - I guess it was deep cleaning it!
I haven’t yet had a chance to clean my rain-soaked bridle and martingale as I had a jump school yesterday and used it, then ran out of time. However, I will be doing this tomorrow so I’ll see how it performs then.
The only think I would prefer is for the soap to leave more sheen to the leather. I found mine was left with a very matte finish - BUT, I think maybe I didn’t use enough soap. I was trying to go light with it and I think I might have gone a bit too light. I definitely didn’t get any lather at all. I’ll try loading up the sponge a bit more next time.
I got my soap today and cleaned both of my bridles tonight. Will tackle the grungy girth tomorrow!
Love the scent (rosemary mint) and I was impressed with how well it cleaned. But even more so by how it softened the leather almost immediately.
So glad I found an awesome product and can support an up and coming business!
You guys are awesome! So glad that shipping to Canada was without incident!
Taking the show on the road to wander around at Chattahoochee Hills today! I’'m looking forward to seeing some of our sponsored riders and if you are there, keep an eye out for me or MissAmandaRose - I have goodies!
Australian test package arrived! very happy with the lavender vanilla - smells like cupcakes and I kept shoving it in my very non-horsey colleagues faces and then cackling about it bring saddle soap when they wanted to know what the amazing smell was!
Libby - I can’t find any instructions on the jar or in the package. Would you mind giving me a quick step by step please?
I got mine about 3 weeks ago, and have enjoyed using it.
I think I did something wrong though, I left the sponge inside and it must have had too much water in it as it soaked up at TON of the soap and got stuck to the soap itself.
Also, when I use it, should I rinse after, it leaves a white film. Maybe I’m using too much…
Got my order yesterday (ginger citrus). The scent seemed a bit off when I first opened the container, but once I started working with it, the “real” scent came through and I quite enjoyed it. In fact, I kept opening the jar yesterday afternoon to take a whiff. I did not notice it leaving my tack scented, but certainly clean
Of course, horsie is laid up at the moment, so I hit the tack trunk to see what I could dig up. Three bridles, an extra two sets of reins, two halters, one martingale and a saddle later I think I am going to like this! This might be long but here is the blow by blow.
One bridle (Miller’s…oh I miss them) is in decent shape but has been stored for about 15 years. I apparently was a bit overzealous at one point and over oiled it. I found the soap seemed to take some of that out as I saw lots of brown in the sponge and water as I rinsed. However, the bridle felt great and I feel confident that it would continue to improve with use.
My saddle is wiped down after every ride. However I found that there were some parts that were a bit dirty and this cleaned it right up. As one poster mentioned above, it left my saddle a bit matte in finish. However, I think that is from the additional water that was in the sponge (certainly more than I would normal use with a glycerine bar or my tattersall). The saddle (grain Antares with calf knee and seat) looks really good this morning.
Most of the other bridles and all the halters cleaned up well and felt good after one cleaning. I was surprised how easy it was to remove the excess lather from my laced reins and there didn’t seem to be any gunky foam left behind…bonus!
And now for my “test”. I have a bridle that is somewhere between 26 and 30 years old (this statement makes me feel ancient…but I digress). I don’t remember the brand, but I can guarantee it wasn’t one of the higher end items. The leather is intact, stitching intact, no rotting of any kind, but it is dry and stiff. So I cleaned it yesterday and really just kept going over and over with the sponge and soap to work the product in. Felt softer, but hey, it’s got some water in it…let’s see what happens.
18 hours later, it still feels much improved. I went ahead and wiped it down again. Not quite as vigorously as yesterday, but thoroughly. I think I’m just going to try this for the week and see how it progresses and let you know my results. But I have a feeling they will be good
Oh…I have to apologize. I assume you put the candies in the package for the horse, but my sweet tooth got the best of me and I ate them  . I love little extras like that though, so please keep them with your future orders
Finally, even with the instructions (which I found clear and to the point) I had to find my own “sweet spot” so to speak with how much water I left in my sponge. I only really noticed lather when I was vigorously going back and forth on a strap or when I was doing my reins, but I am assuming I was using an okay amount of water. If I used any more it would start to drip when the sponge was squeezed around a strap. Lastly, it really didn’t seem to leave any residue which I am used to with most other “soaps”. I really liked it and can’t wait to see how it works going forward.
So glad to have seen this thread!
ETA…I think I saw somewhere that some folks had issues with the product being shipped in the padded envelope, but mine arrived fine with no damage.
Tried it today and loved it! Super light scent and cleans well. I actually like not having that sheen that other soaps can leave. leather just looked clean snd well conditioned. Two thumbs up!
One thing I really like about this soap is that it is excellent at removing transferred dye from my saddle. My half chaps bleed when they’re wet, and dyed the flaps. Castile did not get the transferred dye off, but this soap did. I cleaned my field boots with the soap today, and there was no black on the sponge afterwards.
I don’t know what it is about this soap, but it makes me actually want to clean my tack
Okay, so today I cleaned my bridle and martingale that had been soaked at a rainy show last weekend.
I tried loading more soap onto the sponge (see my earlier post where I wasn’t too sure about how much to use). I am much happier with the results. I could feel the leather getting more supple as I used the soap. Neither piece of tack was very dirty (I had cleaned them right before the show) but it appeared that any leftover sweat was easily coming off. The test for me is the underside of the reins where the sweat gunks up pretty quickly. It came off very easily with this soap and just the barest amount of scrubbing - more like hard wiping.
I did get a bit better finish on these pieces than the previous ones - still don’t have that sheen, but the surface looks richer. I think I hit on the right amount of water and soap. My sponge isn’t dripping (in fact, I squeezed it out after wetting it) but then I picked up a good layer of soap (circled the container 4-5 times).
I guess I missed the instructions on having more water on the sponge? I always squeeze mine out till it’s almost dry before I get into the soap. Incorrect?
