I like strong scents too! I found my citrus ginger had a barely noticeable scent. Still love the soap, but if you ever accidentally make a stronger scented batch, you have a buyer
Geez, donāt check the thread for a day and ya miss out on the conditioner!
Iām so glad yāall are willing to take a chance on trying the conditioner! Iāve been working on getting them ready to fill the orders, and there is definitely a learning curve in filling larger numbers of the orders of them.
I did get the ārealā jars ordered though! But, they are backordered, so it will be later next week before it could get listed for sale for real. By then, all the intrepid souls that bought this first batch can give some feedback!
Iāve used it on my oldest pair of tropical riders full seats, and it has done wonders for making that leather supple again. And that is some leather under LOTS of stress!
I should have all of the orders from this week filled over the next couple of days! Wheeee! Thank you to all who have been willing to give it a try!

Well Duh! You have made me like cleaning my tack.
Leather Balm from the āsale before you can buy it saleā have started to arrive for folks ā I am really anxious to get some reviews on it. I changed a couple of things as I worked on them, as this was the first time Iād made any in bulk. They all went out unscented, so Iād like some input on that too.
Wheee!! You guys have made this so much fun, that in honor of getting our 300th like on FB, we are actually doing our first sale/coupon code! If you order any soap through Monday night, enter the coupon code MAKEOVER20, it will give you a 20% discount on checkout.
The FB likes have been driven in part by a really cook tack box makeover contest that Moxie Designs is doing on FB ā if you havenāt checked it out, now is the time. Of course, we know youād love our products that are in the makeover, but the custom wooden tack box, set of brushes and all the other goodies are a really neat prize! Details are available here: https://www.facebook.com/MoxieDesigns
Thanks to you all ā Iām working on the new labels ā almost ready to go to print and I think the leather balm gets the same jar, different label ā something eye catching, maybe? The black lids are not really blowing my skirt up in person . . .
It has been the best to have all the help from the end users of our product!!

Darn wish I waited on the sale to buy my soap. Anyways I just got my 2 new soaps and conditioner in the mail today.
Soaps are amazing of course! I originally got Benās Rosemary Mint and I LOVE the sent of that one. This last purchase along with the new conditioner I ordered Foxās Vanilla Lavender and Confidence Aromatherapy Blend. Love the vanilla lavender, but Iām not so fond of the confidence. No the sent really matters because the soap is the best. Will review the conditioner once I play with it more, but so far im liking it!
Just got my new soap and leather balm in the mail today. Itās like Christmas morning starting to clean my tack from my show today, will report back!
Dang it Bensmom! I was waiting for the conditioner to be available (missed the pre-sale) to order more soap for myself and a few gifts⦠And then you went and posted the 20% off code on Facebook. Just put in an order for three soaps. I am finally to the very bottom of my beta container, so I guess I really needed to put in an order anyway. Iāve become such a tack cleaning addict, I canāt be without any soap! Iām all for you renaming it crack soap.
Just bumping this up to the front page.
My leather balm was shipped on Thursday and arrived on Saturday, but today is the first time Iāve had a chance to use it. It was in my air-conditioned house until this afternoon, where it sat in the barn in 95 degrees and some awful humidity for a few hours. Bensmom, Iām not sure what the texture you were going for was, but after sitting in the heat, it felt like butter thatās been sitting out for a few hours. It would have been easy to beat into cookies! I mention this because Iām not sure if that was the original texture or if it softened some.
I was pleased with how well the balm absorbed into the leather without leaving a residue. I donāt own such a thing as a soft cloth, so I rubbed it in with my fingers while flexing the leather, as I would a balsam. My bridle (much better after 2 months of the soap, by the way- still inclined to be on the dry side, but no longer in a concerning way) absorbed a light coat within about 2 minutes and I put a second coat on. No stickiness, no dirt-attraction, no feeling like I had to wash my hands afterwards (I just rubbed my hands together and now my hands feel great!) Iāll see what it looks like tomorrow and also give it a try on the saddle, which is sticky for two days after its usual balsam and thus doesnāt get conditioned as much as it should.
I actually did not smell any particular scent, which I donāt mind, but mention because it was discussed earlier. This could just be a mild case of the allergies.
I just gave in and ordered my first batch of soap. Iām not even riding at the moment so my gear has been cleaned and stuck in storage for 6 months, but after all the rave reviews and then the allure of 20% off, I couldnāt resist
Okay, Iāve had time to use the conditioner on a few different items of my tack, wanted to use it- let it sit, and see the results before I came back to report my findings.
First of all- Libby I love your new labels- much improved from the original batch of soap I bought! kudos:yes:
The jar: This is the ONLY dislike I have about this product. While I like the look of it from the outside, the opening is a bit small and difficult to get my sponge/cloth out of. (I know you said you were nixing these, so this is a non-issue!)
Scent: I did not notice much of a scent at all from it, this is neither a good, nor a bad thing. I donāt mind it being unscented, but I also wouldnāt mind a light vanilla scent!
The Texture: I live in Maryland, where it is currently hot and humid, but of course this varies by the day! I keep my tack cleaning soap and conditioners in my air conditioned house, not out on in the barn, so I suppose that the texture could change. The conditioner is slightly firm, light yellow color, definitely not liquidy like the CWD conditioner I typically use. I would dare to say that it is firmer than the Effax lederbalsam and Passier lederbalsam as well. Personally- I quite liked the texture!
The Tack: I used this conditioner on two hunter bridles, one figure 8 bridle, one running martingale, and one standing martingale. All of these are practically brand new and had been cleaned once/ oiled once since purchasing, then put into storage until Higher Standards Rosemary Mint saddle soap came around. They had all been cleaned with the HS soap a week or so ago, and left alone in anticipation of this conditioner! One hunter bridle and standing martingale are Edgewood, the other hunter bridle is a Red Barn Icon, Figure 8 is Red Barn, and the running martingale is a Rodrigo. All supple tack to begin with, but still a bit rough/ unbroken in- feeling since they all have only been used once or twice since purchasing. I applied a light coat of the HS conditioner to all of these items with a tack sponge and then worked it into the leather with my hands, rolling and massaging as I went. I hung them to dry overnight and then wiped them all down with a soft cloth this morning. I am absolutely amazed at how nice all of this turned out! My bridles and reins (who likes new reins- not me!) are like butter! They feel like they have been ridden in for years. I am so thrilled with this conditioner, I didnāt think I would ever love a conditioner more than my beloved CWD conditioner, but you have done it again Libby! Congrats- now you have further induced my new-found tack cleaning obsession! Literally cannot wait to do my always-thirsty 15 year old Jaguar saddle tonight and new Tad Coffin girth that needs some much needed rehab!
Two thumbs up
Ack! I missed the sale! But Iām interested in getting the conditioner, so maybe waiting wonāt kill meā¦
Argh! Iām getting to the end of my soap and desperately want to order more soap and get some conditioner too! Are there any plans on making more conditioner??? I know this first round was a test batch, right? I LOVE the soap and canāt wait to try the conditioner!
Even though I still have plenty of the sample conditioner left, I clean A LOT of tack, and frequently. Ready to purchase more as soon as it is available!!! Please, please, please say they are 8oz jars still!!! 2-4oz just wonāt do haha!
Reminisce, this is too funny - I felt exactly the same way about the conditioner as you did! I put a review here (post 595) and if anyone wants to see pics, in post 589 I took photos of my 2001 Prestige - before conditioner, after conditioner & after conditioner/soap wipe down. Click on the thumbnails to see the captions - the difference the conditioner made in those little surface cracks was AMAZING!
ETA: Prior to finding this most awesome soap, I was a DIEHARD Tattersall fan. Never cared much for a glycerin bar. I would wipe my tack down with the Tattersall after every ride (for the most part) - but I found it would build up on the leather and then I would use Castile soap to get the Tattersall residue off.
I am happy to say I have not had ANY residue build-up like I mentioned above - and I am not stingy with the soap - I really load the sponge up!
Another Tale of Confidence Soap
More confidence saddle soap news-
My son and his huge tb, Tali, went to the first schooling show for both of them. Lots of confidence soap has been used in getting ready for this momentous occasion. The morning of the show, it was raining here, but over in the Shenandoah Valley, there was suppose to be a break just before his ride. One of the things I learned about the soap is that the fragrance blooms in high humidity. This is a Secret Weapon!
They were on adrenaline in anticipation, plus Tali was puzzled, since he was last out for foxhunting. The organizer was watching them, noted that they had just arrived and were due to ride in 5 minutes, and kindly asked if they would like more time to settle in. One of the later riders sympathetically volunteered to switch times. With an extra 10 minutes of settling, they hit the ring for the lowest test available, Intro A, walk/trot.
The personal goals for this ride were basic.
Stay in the ring.
Donāt run over the judge.
Breathe.
Tali was forward, but didnāt break into a gallop, bolt or buck. My son remembered the test and did all the pieces in order without breaking to other gaits. He cooed to Tali at one tense moment, which the judge noticed. Tali appreciated the reassurance, though, and gained some confidence. The test got better as they went, and actually had some moments of roundness and bend. At the end, my son halted and tried to tip his safety helmet in salute to the judge. Happily, he patted Tali, and grinned his way to thank the judge. The judge was kind, gave him some words of encouragement and a few general pointers.
After the test, they went over to the schooling area and walked until they both calmed down and relaxed. Since there were only 3 horses in his class, the results were quickly posted. They were third, with a 56%. The winner was a 60%, so my son was elated to be so close. Tali was confident and happy, wearing his first ribbon for photographs and accepting homage from his groupies.
With the confidence gained from the outing, my son is now busily entering the next schooling show. I can see a lot more Confidence blend soap being used in the near future.
When can we order the conditioner?
Our new custom saddles arrived last week, so we are looking forward to your help in breaking them in.
Conditioner should be ready either late this week, or the first of next week. The jars will arrive the end of the week, though Mr. Bensmom really likes the idea of using the same jar, with a distinctive color on the label. So, when the jars arrive, I will list some additional conditioner on the etsy shop, and weāll use up the blue jar/black lids
Iām so glad everyone is still pleased! Now to get out the orders from our sale!
This is really so much fun ā I have been working today on a banner to use at any vendor booths, and to hang on my trailer or stall at shows.
And then hopefully this week, weāll have a real website! Wheeeee!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
