Bensmom saddle soap - the review thread (if that's okay with Bensmom)

Renn – maybe?! I switched essential oils, and I’ve tried to keep it consistent, but these are a higher quality and the scent may last longer.

If anyone finds it too strong, let me know!

Wheeee! Family money is awesome!

The soaps are so fun to give! I loved the one that I won at the Training Three-Day in May, and after using it all summer, I’m sold. I recently bought a balm to try, and also ordered several soaps to have on hand to take along as hostess gifts and similar. The size and appealing packaging and handmade quality and attractive pricing make it perfect for gifting.

Just submitted my first order for HS Citrus Ginger and Leather Balm!!! So excited!

Yay! We should ship Saturday morning. I’ve just gotten back from being out of town – darn day job

Thanks again to all of you! I’m also enlisting any volunteers who want to hit up any local shops that might be interested in carrying it.

I suck totally and completely at marketing and going in and asking places if they would consider selling it – I did a few places in Ocala and wanted to crawl back into my introverts cave by the end of the day. I am NOT meant to be in sales! But, if you have anywhere you think it would be a good fit, give me a shout and I can send you info and draft my COTH friends into doing the work that I’m terrible at doing myself

I also heard that a certain VBNT tried out the leather balm yesterday on his belt and was pleased. That. Made. My. Day. He also was given some soap to take home – how cool is that?!!

You guys are the best! It’s like having our own tack cleaning cult army

Libby

I have been LOVING the soap! Love love love!

So for those with the SOAP, I’m curious about getting the BALM too. Is it worth it? It sounds like folks are loving the BALM , too?

I’ve been so happy with the soap, with my high-end tack, I don’t really need to condition/balm it. For tack that I feel needs oiling/conditioning I’ve been using my german orange tub stuff “bienenwachs lederpflegecreme” very happily.

Can those with the SOAP comment on the advantages of getting the BALM too? I’m very tempted…

Want to explore Devon as a possibility?! Maybe a lemon stick scent?! long way iff but we can discuss. PM me.

Just ordered some soap and balm. My saddle is very stiff and squeaky. Also have some old leather items that need help.

If it lives up to all the previous posts, I’ll be getting some for my friends, and for my sister to use on the leather in her car.

What does etsy use for shipping? regular post office, or UPS? I put in a special address for the post office, since have a PO box. If I know it’s UPS I use my home address, but if it’s the post office, since I have a PO box, they don’t deliver to my address; because I no longer have a mail box.

looking forward to the arrival

I got my Vanilla Mint yesterday and used it today. Oh goodness, does it smell good. I want soap for myself that smells like it. My fingers still smell a bit like it and I keep smelling them. It wins for awesome scent.

I’m so glad y’all are enjoying the vanilla mint!!

Hmmmm – lemon stick might be a good scent!

And, I am shipping through USPS, so I will make sure to send to the post office box! In my little town, you aren’t able to have a home mail box and we have to have a post office box, so I understand when it is confusing!

I had orders that I bought labels for today and generated the emails for, and then my printer died! Well, it developed dementia, and no longer could remember its friends, my laptop or Mr. Bensmom’s laptop, wireless or plugged in directly. So I trooped out and purchased a new printer (which is even more awesomer! Yay!) and the orders will go out Monday instead.

Thanks for all the support! (and I think the balm is even better than the soap, myself, but I’ll have to let other folks answer that question!)

The balm is amazing. My leathers were sort of scary-dry and they are supple and lovely now.

As good as the soap is, I’ll use it, and let my fiancé use it.

The balm though…I hoard it like a crack addict.:smiley: Seriously, it’s the most effective leather balm I’ve ever seen. My only quibble is that its not scented but its probably a good thing, or I’d use it for hand lotion.

Hey Libby, are you coming out with a September scent? I’m coming due to order some more soap and balm and want to examine my options

The balm is better than the soap. I like the soap a lot but I would say there are other good products. The balm is my preferred out of those on the market.

Whoa! You guys made my day!!

There will not be a special scent until October – the one in the Canter Auction will be the scent for October. Haven’t decided what it will be yet!

I posted a while back that I have traditionally been a balm-type leather conditioner hater… Bensmom’s balm is ABSOLUTELY worth getting.

Crossing over from dressage here…

I finally ordered myself some soap about a week ago. Couldn’t wait to get it and try it out. I used it yesterday for the first time, and the stuff is awesome! Great smell (citrus ginger), so easy to use, and left all my tack in beautiful condition. Oh, and the hand-written note was a great touch. Thanks, Bensmom!

I think I’m going to get some more for a friend’s birthday that’s coming up.

I’m not posting much anymore but had to report because I just got my order today. Thanks for such quick delivery, Bensmom! It arrived less than a week after I ordered but I’ve been away. I got citrus ginger, rosemary mint & the balm. I’ve tired the citrus ginger, and the scent is lovely. It did a good job cleaning the gunk that gets in the buckles of my dogs leather quillins collar. It leaves a lovely scent too, Belle was very interested in it! My rainbows were in desperate need of a clean and were really dry too. The cleaner did improve them a bit, but the balm was AMAZING. Apart from a few deep blemishes (I wear my rainbows all day every day 9 months a year unless I’m at the barn), they look brand new.

Uhm… so when I actually did use it as hand lotion on Saturday… does that make me crazy? I was working some balm into my boots (you HAVE GOT to see the pics over on the HSLC Facebook page!) when a friend beckoned me into the barn. I still had a good amount of balm on my hands…so I just rubbed it into my hands instead.

Since this appears to be The Gathering Place Of Leather Care Gurus, I have a question for the wise minds of COTH.

When a saddle is unused and stored long-term in a relatively climate-controlled place (temp range 48-90 or so, I have an old, old house), how often should it be cleaned/fed? I have it covered to keep dust off, but I don’t want it to dry out. I haven’t ever really had Nice Things and don’t know exactly what to do when they’re just chillin’ in the spare room.

Thanks

Hey Bensmom! I’m loving your soap even more now that this terrible wave of heat/humidity has got the mold spores at the barn working overtime. My horse’s leather halter got moldy overnight in this icky weather, but the rosemary mint soap got it spotless and after a few days the mold hasn’t come back, even though it’s been humid enough to cause condensation in the barn.

By the way, any chance you’ve thought about doing gift-size sets when the holidays are near? I’ve been thinking forward to holiday time at the barn, and for horsey friends I can’t afford to buy both the full size soap and the full size conditioner for I would love to get some sort of gift set or sample sizes. The more people at the barn I convert, the fewer people will borrow mine!
