Best Affordable, Quality Wool Cooler

I get all of my blankets made from there, turnouts, quilted indoor ones, wool coolers, and sheets and they come out amazing! They put our logo on them too and they are just fantastic. Last for years and the price is great. I have them shipped right to my door as they are over 2hr away for me.

They do custom work as well, you just have to ask. They will put in shoulder darts if you want them. I had my quilted blankets made as closed fronts since I layer blankets for turn outs and I find it easier to just slip them over their heads.

I’m going to have show scrims made this year from them as well. A friend of ours had some made and they are beautiful!

Thank you for the feedback!

How heavy or light would you say the wool cooler is?

They make 2 and this is the one that I got (I acutally have 4 of them now - I only ordered 2 but the wrong colour was used for my logo so they remade them for me).

They are quite heavy, but I’m not sure of the actual weight. Really nice quality, and I would say they compare to the big names for sure.

Its not the greatest picture, but that is it on the ponies. It is navy blue with brown leather strap. Grey binding and yellow piping and our logo was also done in the light grey to match.

My wool cooler is from Brubacher’s and I really like it. They are the loveliest people too!

Thank you! I’m always on the look out for a great custom horse clothier.

I miss those big, old school square coolers, or one with a neck that is actual wool. I’ll call 'em.

Thank you again for the new details about the kind of work Brubacher’s will do.

I bet they would make a big square cooler if you wanted one! They custom make all of their blankets upstairs. Its quite the shop!

Ooh… it would be cool to Make a Pilgrimage to see it.

I did that with The Clothes Horse in Cinnaminson, NJ. Nothing says ā€œcustom everything hunter princessā€ like walking around in their warehouse and picking out your own samples. Of course, they will send you a packet of those in your potential barn colors, too.

I have one from them that is going on 15 years old! It looks show quality!

Years ago I went down to a very big fabric store in Vancouver (Sew and Sew I think) and bought a huge amount of really
heavy Melton wool and some trim and made my own on my trusty ancient Singer sewing machine. It turned out awesome.

I field hunted then and while we went in for Irish or had tailgate my horse was covered up in the horsetrailer munching away… Often these horses make a second sweat and my horse stayed warm under this wool cooler. I had made it long enough for the neck, too,
When we came back it was like hoar frost on the blanket but the horse was warm and dry underneath.

I am a believer in real wool since Melton is what Hunt jackets are made of - we may come home a lot heavier after a long time in the rain than when we went out, but we were warm underneath.

I’m no seamstress - anybody can do it.

The Clothes Horse - www.theclotheshorse.com - makes them that LAST.

In the long run, it’s better to go for one of quality and get your moneys worth and have it last. Ask for swatches if you’re unsure of colors. You won’t regret it!

OOOH guys you are making the loss of my blanket much more tolerable. I’m thinking of commissioning a blanket

Thank you everyone for the great tips and reviews.

@Foxtrot’s I can’t sew that well, but I’m wondering what it would cost if I bought supplies and had a seamstress do it based on the fit of his current sheet. Hmmm

OP - I would think, since you are not buying in bulk and real Melton wool is heavy and gorgeous, and then pay a seamstress I wonder if you would be saving anything, but if you can sew a straight line you can make one. You will need a nice rug to use as a template for fit, and purchase the buckles, etc.

We are picking up our barn coolers and scrims from Brubacher’s on Saturday. I had a set made for my guy for Christmas as a trial run and now the whole barn has ordered. Beautiful work and wonderful to deal with.
