Best Alternative to Pennfield Fibergized?

My new pony came with some Pennfield Fibergized feed, and dang–it smells good, everyone wants to eat it…but I can’t get it in West TX.

Is there anything out there that’s similar? I swear I wanted to eat the stuff!

Thanks!

Is it this?

We feed both and I find the Triple crown SR to be very similar - its got that very textured and sweet smell. If you can get triple crown in your area it’s a great feed.

Nutrena Pro Force Fiber. I want to put it on my yogurt

I use the Nutrena Pro Force Fuel and my picky eaters gobble it up. The Pro Force line was also just recently launched in Texas. It is also (for me at least) 5 bucks per bag cheaper than the TR senior.

I just discovered that line from Nutrena and I am PUMPED!! I went from the Pennfield Fibergized to TC Senior to Nutrena Senior. I loved the TC Senior but my guy was not working pretty much all last year and I saved a bunch of money switching to the Nutrena. I’m going to talk to my rep and see if I can get some bags of the Fuel.

Fibergized is amazing. It’s my prefered feed. However, I’ll feed TC Senior if I can’t feed Fibergized.

Kentucky Equine Research did the research and created the fibergize formula while they were still partners with Pennfields. They have since ended their relationship and KER makes their own feed. KER Releve Sport is very similar (if not the same thing) as the Fibergize.

Not sure they are out in Texas though…

AND we can’t get that here, either. Are horse outside the East just not worthy?!

I don’t know why I’m having such a massive brain fart. There is something (I think Blue Seal) that looks exactly like the Pennfield, but I can’t remember what it is. It’s about $8 cheaper per bag too. If I think of it, I’ll repost.

I feed fibregized to two of mine and also found it is similar to Triple Crown Senior. One downside to fibregized is that I have noticed a much higher risk of choke with it than with other feeds - and this with horses that do not bolt their food. So I wouldn’t be too upset about picking an alternative.

Is it Blue Seal Sentinel Performance LS? I haven’t tried it but I think that is one people use to sub for fibregized

What subk said. Sorry you can’t get it in TX, tho.

KER does partner with feed companies around the country (and the world) and could probably help you find something. They are really generous with nutrition info. Here is a link to send them an inquiry about feeds in your area:

I’ve not fed Fibergized but I know that KER Releve and TC Senior are basically the same feed. If TC is in your area that would be a good option.

I just went and looked at the website info o the KER Releve and it has NSC of 18% which is SIGNIFICANTLY higher than the TC SR NSC of 11.7%. Just saying they can’t be practically the same

Ehh…not really. If you were feeding an older horse with known insulin resistant issues then maybe. Typically, your average feed NSC is in the mid/high 20s to the low 30s with NSC approaching 40 in some feeds not unusual. It is certainly higher, but hardly “significantly in all caps” higher and it still ranks as a lower NSC feed. (But not what I’d choose for a know problem which I don’t believe is what the OP is dealing with.)
