Best and Worst Tack/Clothing Purchases

I just got a pair and tried them on. These are the ones! They fit me like custom. Love the fabric. The rise is perfect and best of all, NO MUFFIN TOP. I’m ordering more.

By the way, I am not curvy at all-except from a side view.

Right?! They’re like magic pants. Flattering on everyone I’ve seen them on. I have them in 5 colors. Thanks Dover, here’s more of my money.

How to they hold up to washing?

https://justriding.com/. shipping is slow but found they have the best prices.

i bought horse pilot breeches from [URL=“https://www.royalequestrian.co.uk/”]https://www.royalequestrian.co.uk/

Good luck!

Any pictures of the halter? It sounds lovely

They don’t seem to make them in pink anymore, but here is a link of the same halter in purple. I know I paid less than this price so they must go on sale every once in a while.

Add an Equivisor to my list of Bests. Should have done this 10 years ago.

Second the equivisor. And I don’t know if this counts, but prescription sunglasses.

How do you get your glasses to not slide down when riding?

Brown field boots!

I finally sprung for a pair of the Mountain Horse Sovereign boots (in the havana, not that flashy two tone brown situation), and I get compliments literally every time I go to the barn, plus they are my favorite boots I’ve ever worn. Super comfy with zero break in time! Now for the question of…will they work with a helmet with black leather accents because I’m in loooooove with the tipperary windsor croco top…thoughts?

Honorable mentions go to:

aztec diamond saddle pads - they have a real forward flap shape so they don’t wriggle out from under my saddle and the mesh underside wicks moisture really well, plus they look SO sharp with the matching ear bonnet (those are pretty great too)

devoucoux comfort stirrup leathers - all the benefits of millbrooks/pravins but they don’t annihilate the leather on my saddle

old school flat hermes saddle - uncomfortable as all get out but puts me in the nicest most athletic position. I’m still in the market for something comfier and a bit more secure but I won’t ever sell this bad boy so I can haul it out when I sense I’m getting sloppy. Plus…it’s just SO pretty.

cute little saddle tag I bought on Etsy that says “help, rider down!” and has my phone number. Ellie Mae is a bolter and I know it’s only a matter of time before she gets her knickers in a twist over a bird and leaves me twiddling my thumbs under a tree.

As for the worst:

I am fully OVER my Ogilvy half pad. While it works wonders for my back, all that memory foam overheats the hell out of my horse and it really screws with saddle fit. I’ll admit it’s pretty great for throwing under a too-big saddle though.

HR Farm breeches - I want to love these. They are flattering, inexpensive, come in nice colors, and sticky. Unfortunately they are so sticky that they stick to my saddle better than they stick to my butt. Just to clarify, my butt is prominent enough that I should not be worrying about sliding breeches. Plus, anything without a thigh pocket for my phone is out since I’ll need it when I’m sitting under that tree.

Ariat boots - this is a love/hate thing. They are SO comfortable, the comfiest in the world, but I cannot for the life of me get a pair to last more than 6 months without looking super duper ratty and beat up. The exception to this are the little dark green discontinuted rubber chelsea boots, which I will buy on the spot if anybody has a pair lying around in an 8.5

i just wish the flow rise had side pockets

It definitely depends on how they fit your nose and how they wrap around the back of your ears. If you can bend the ends of the ear tip part it definitely helps on some. I’ve had some that fall down and some that don’t. These are ray-ban aviators and they stay up nicely.

Also, hint, they slide down if you’re looking at your hands/horse’s ears. This may not be an issue for you but it did get me to realize I was doing it.

I always use straps on my dark glasses when riding to keep them in place. I got my last ones at REI. Such as: https://www.rei.com/product/174103/croakies-terra-spec-cord-eyewear-retainer?CAWELAID=120217890009911241&CAGPSPN=pla&CAAGID=15877491280&CATCI=pla-411071412613&cm_mmc=PLA_Google&product_id=1741030001&ad_type=pla&channel=online&partition_id=411071412613&target_id=pla-411071412613&brand_flag=&adgroup_id=15877491280&campaign_id=180122080&location_physical=9021375&cid=53280440320&network=g&network_type=search&device_type=c&merchant_id=1209243&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIm43-8KSb6gIVVh6tBh2hVQqPEAQYAyABEgJzlfD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Ear grips: https://www.amazon.com/customerpicks/Explore-ear-grips-for-glasses/1587f736dfbda7e075ec

I keep them on both my normal glasses and sunglasses 24/7. Truly a game changer for me.

Thank you!

Good buys,

A pair of parlantis. I bought from Tailored Equestrian in 2012. I use to ride 5+ horses in those things daily, muck out stalls and at one point I was walking close to 14 miles everyday. I still have them. The look great minus a busted zipper.

Hadley riding tights. I bought some riding tights last year when I was super pregnant and riding. The tights are now my goto.

Those little bucket strap things… they make hanging water buckets at shows a breeze.

Gelite half pad. I love it! Paid 40 bucks for it at a consignment store.

Kastel shirts, my goto. I bought a bunch when they were 30 a piece on zulily probably 5+ years ago. They’ve held up to everyday wear.

Worst,

Piper breeches, they just wouldn’t work with my body and they material was weird.

Ogivly half pad… fits my saddles in all the wrong places… I’ve bought and sold 2x. Don’t ask why.

BEST:

Haas Diamond Gloss Brush. It like absorbs the dust and instantly shines the horse. It’s a great finishing brush too.

Equivisor! I have the jute one. Might be the best purchase hands down for summer riding. Not sure why I waited so long to get it.

Roeckl Suntan gloves for summer and Roeckl insulated winter riding gloves. Actually any of the Roeckl gloves because they’re so comfortable and seamless (I HATE any kind of seam of bulky wrist on a glove, it just drives me nuts.)

Aztec Diamond technical base layer shirt, it’s like a compression shirt which I LOVE for winter. I feel like it even helps with my upper body and arm position too, it’s nice. It has zippers on the sleeves which is a cool accent too!

White ‘n Brite was amazing shampoo when I owned a grey.

Rambo Ultimo turnout blanket and Amigo Varilayer stable blanket are my horse’s staples for extreme cold. I ask love the Smartpak Ultimate turnouts just as much.

Smartpak Winter riding breeches, fleece lined with silicone grip. I’m really into this silicone grip! I hope more companies start using it on knee patches, it’s phenomenal when your horse is bouncy or a spooker.

WORST:

The Smartpak “non-slip” pad SUCKS. It provides literally no grip (in fact I feel like the saddle slips more when I use it) and makes the horse sweat profusely and drips super gross down the sides of the horse. Then the pad itself never dries and it’s just gross.

Dover Crown Bridle - it’s so cheap looking, leather feels like styrofoam and does not take up oil whatsoever. The reins are also so light it’s so hard to maintain contact because they’re practically blowing in the wind like paper reins or something.

Tredstep Medici field boots- they never ever broke in and killeddd to walk more than a few steps in. Horrible purchase, even with gel ankle protectors they just chewed up my skin and didn’t flex.

Smartpak Hadley breeches, the fitting is SO inconsistent and the zippers on every single pair constantly falls down. I have 3 pairs that I spent over $120 each on that I had to spend $25 each to have new zippers put in. I’d be walking around and not even realize the fly was down, or as soon as I start my lesson I can feel the fly just completely open which is SO embarrassing and distracting. If I’m going to spend $120 plus $25 more for a zipper I’m going to just avoid the annoyance and buy Tailored Sportsmans. I reached out to Smartpak and they were no help “Oh this is the first time we’ve heard of this problem”… which is funny because 2 other people at the barn have the same exact issue with their Hadleys. Kind of put me off SP for a bit because I spend a ton of money with them. Hmphf. (I WILL say however that I like their Pipers for winter schooling! They really warm and grippy for my saddle. And the price is nice and they have a nice color selection now- I love my rusts!

I ride in glasses that are not sunglasses but darken to protect you from the sun when in UV light.

The only time they slid down was when they got accidentally knocked. I bent them a little bit and they stayed put.
