I have a few Helly Hansen’s that are 10+ years old and are going strong. Plus they look good in the saddle… but definitely looking into some of these suggestions!
I’ve been through Barbours, Filsons, and Cabellas rain coats. Now I got an Outback and it is doing the trick. Fits over any level of warm coat or frock coat, hood is big enough to fit over my helmet (important so you don’t get rain down your back but I did tie on longer paracord so I can tie it easily) and the sleeves have Velcro to keep them from interfering with my reins and the back, while it could be a little longer, fits over my cantle. I am dry! And all for $110. Not $600
Grangers has a wash-in waterproofing treatment to renew your raincoat’s effectiveness: https://grangers.co.uk/products/clothing-repel
I haven’t had the need for it yet, but it looks like it may be worth a try when you would rather keep your coat instead of buying a new one.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions! After a week of searching (and being fed up with getting soaked while hacking), I finally tracked down a Kerrits coach’s coat in charcoal:winkgrin::winkgrin::winkgrin: I am really excited to test it out- we have a week of rain in the forecast
