This is why we own 100g blankets.
My non-clipped cushings pony-yak can wear a medium with no neck at 62* and zero sweating. He gets cold much quicker than my non-cushings horses.
I have liked shneiders products, but what do you like about this one in particular? How is it forgiving?
The fleece insulation seems to keep horses more comfortable at a wider range of temperatures than 100 g of traditional fill. Probably in large part because it is so much more breathable. For example, my unclipped pony is comfortable in her Tekno-Fleece insulated blanket between about 15 degrees and 55 degrees (not that I normally leave anything on her at that temperature, but here in the South, weather can be wildly unpredictable), whereas she sweats in a 100 g at 45 degrees and shivers if naked below 25. So thereās more room for āerrorā in when you put on and take off the blanket, from my experience.
I would also add that if your horse lives out and doesnāt play, that is one calculation⦠but if your horse is like mine and is stalled and prone to losing marbles in turnout, the calculus becomes difficult. Today we had a low of 33 and a high of 62, and my horse lost her ever loving mind in turnout in a sheet. She was shaving cream frothy and sweaty from nose to tail and her sheet was drenched. No blanket changing calculations could have accounted for that, or for the bathing and sheet airing out that ensuedā¦
