Best breathable blanket for uncomfortable horse on stall rest?

A couple more to put on your list:

Anatomeq makes a stable blanket that is closed front, so no irritating buckles - maybe he would be comfortable in that? I know a few people who have them and seem to like them, although they are pricey.

Horsewear Ireland makes a Dry Liner which is wicking and breathable. I don’t think it has belly straps as it’s supposed to be used along with a turnout, but you could put a no-fill sheet on top:

we have several RaDon sheets, they are over 30 years old and are just nearly indestructible. The sheets are made of Arctic Nyl

lightweight fabric that provides unmatched durability. Your horse stays clean, comfortable and protected with it’s unique wicking action to draw moisture away.

In the UK the Thermatex Cooler Rug would possibly solve your problem. There’s no joining seam so it moulds to the horses shape and can be bought with or without surcingles.

They are however comparatively expensive.

The traditional fix would be a cotton anti sweat sheet under a wool rug.

I have the AirMax liner… it’s great in many ways. Fantastic when you want just a touch more than a sheet, but not a 100g. It fits perfectly on my one mare. On my harder to fit mare, the lack of a smooth lining on the inside does tend to make it pull back on her shoulders a bit. If you like the material, it also comes as a cooler with straps - it’s not just a liner.
