Best bridle?

I’m in love with my Devoucoux bridles. Amazing quality and clean up beautifully.
Check Ebay and Poshmark. You can find a lot of good deals on tack and with Pony Finals and indoors over, you might luck out and get a cob bridle cheap as kids grow out and sell/end leases of large ponies.
This actually looks very nice and inexpensive: https://www.ebay.com/itm/374988958906?_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D1110025%26algo%3DHOMESPLICE.COMPOSITELISTINGS%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20220405142716%26meid%3D759ae370a18c41f28992db9bcfeedb35%26pid%3D101506%26rk%3D6%26rkt%3D25%26sd%3D134758257324%26itm%3D374988958906%26pmt%3D0%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D3458402%26algv%3DAlgoIndex5SimRanker&_trksid=p3458402.c101506.m1851

I *love * the Dover build a bridle, especially for babies. I’ve had one for 10 years with 4-5x weekly use and it looks amazing, and I just bought a new one. My horses tend to have funky shaped heads (horse sized head piece, cob sized cheek pieces, horse sized caveson, oversized brown band ) and it’s so nice to get the perfect fit for a reasonable price. You just pick each piece in the size you need and they ship the pieces to you.

I bit the bullet and bought a “used but not really used” CWD bridle from the Red Trailer Lady who frequents the shows in SoCal. This is a horse whose current bridle is a combination of an Ovation horse crownpiece, cob noseband from Brad, horse brass clincher browband that I bought at the Dublin Horse Show decades ago, and what were supposed to be Ovation pony cheeks (but seemed a bit long). I had previously tried a used size 2 Devoucoux which was too big in places. This was also a size 2 and the woman said it had been tried and returned at least once or twice because the sizing was weird. But it fit Grady like it was made for him, which probably does mean that the sizing is weird. So not all brands are created equal, not even brands owned by the same company.

Nothing I own fits a CWD bridle except my mare who has the weirdest head ever and it fits her like a glove! LOL

Strange question: are there other bridles that have this same look? This style is really popular with a really fancy barn in my area. Is there a super duper fancy bridle with this same appearance (noseband design, width)? Just curious! I had a Red Barn that looked similar, but I didn’t like the leather.

The In Gate has a more expensive version called the Coronation bridle - I believe it has the same (or similar) profile.

First of all, his gorgeous! Have you looked at the Dy’on Cavesson Bridle? They’re beautiful quality and fit with the wider headpiece and noseband. https://equizoneonline.com/products/cavesson-hunter-us-bridle -

Richard Castelow Bridles are the kind of original gangster as far as styling for that genre

I’m still using all my Hadfields tack, 20 years on.

Jeez, those things are gorgeous! Thanks for the reference!

I love my Antares bridle. I have had it for close to 20 years and it has been used for everyday and showing.
It cleans up beautifully and the leather is so nice and soft.
I just purchased a second on for a new horse and the quality and leather quality still seem to be the same as the old bridle.

Love, love, love my Antares bridles!! I have…more than I’d like to admit and I use them all!! My oldest is maybe 18 years old and my newest was purchased last year. The quality and durability is unmatched and they are absolutely timeless! First two pictures are the 2010s hunter model, the third picture is my oldest, the fourth picture is a 2009 model, the figure 8 is a 2013, and the last picture was one purchase a bit less than a year ago.

Thank you everyone! I think for now I’m going to buy a nicer Dover bridle to get us through the “I chew on the reins” phase and then invest in a nicer one down the line! Really appreciate all the suggestions! I can’t wait for him to get started next summer!

Remarkable Leather Goods is coming out with one in November. The pictures on social media look yummy, it’s American made. And so far every piece of leather I’ve touched, made by them, has been next level. Not sure what he price point will be, but I can’t wait to take a look.

(please note I in no way work for them or anything, I just really love their stuff!)

If the other poster doesn’t snag it, I would also love the link!

I love their stuff too. I got an oops halter from them that is gorgeous!

I know! I’m excited to see what that looks like, it may be my nicer halter in the future!
