Best companion for 1 horse house

Your horse might be fine alone. I would try that before adding a freeloader.

Be careful if you do get a miniature anything - donkey or horse - putting them in with a full sized horse can be dangerous for the little ones. I had a miniature horse in with my big gelding for a while and they got along fine, but he’s not big on play time. I’d be worried about putting a mini in with a horse that likes to play a lot, pawing and kicking could easily result in catastrophic injury, and vet bills for little horses cost just as much!

If you’ve got the setup and fencing capabilities for a goat, that could be an option. Not all horses like goats. We have a goat, he’s cute and entertaining but my horse (an OTTB, who presumably has seen goats before) doesn’t give two figs about him. And he’s an escape artist PIA that runs amok and will climb on and destroy anything he can get his naughty little feet on (typical goat behavior), tries to steal my horse’s grain and will pee all over the hay.

Every horse need a friend. I think Pony is the best choice for your horse. Both will play with each other.
