Best companions for horses

I would not recommend sheep. They die too easily. My mom raises sheep and has to keep them separated from the horses. The horses have accidentally killed a couple by stepping on them.

Mine do fine when I leave with the other. The older gelding is like, “by honey, see you when you get home!” No fuss no muss. I can leave him on pasture or whatever. The young mare is not happy, but she’s fine. She hangs out in the mud lot and waits. I’d try to see how yours act before you get something else to be responsible for. Put one in a stall and trailer the other around the block. Rinse and repeat. I think they do learn that eventually the companion comes home.

I am sooo hoping this is how it ends up. I get glimpses of them being really chill and reasonable. But I can also see the one especially losing his mind at being alone. They both ride out alone and one has been in solo turnout before but they do enjoy each other’s company … cross your fingers.
